I have been on Omeprazol 40 mg a day and finally after 10 days, my severe stomach pain and Gerds seems to be going away.   And along with that,  I have not had my pulses race with Hyperthyroidism from normal of 60-70 to 120- 140 and once about a month ago 160.

I am a nurse,  have a daughter that had Graves disease, and thought I knew a lot about thyroid disease,  but I have never heard of it being connected with either stomach pain after eating/ probable ulcer, or GERDS.

Thanks for the help

Don't know about hyperthyroidism and Gerd, but in the recent past I got back into being hypo for a while.  During that time I developed acid reflux that was very bad, even though I was already taking 20 mg of Prilosec twice a day.  I changed meds to Armour in order to have a source of T3 that I needed to increase my FT3 level.  In just two days the acid reflux was gone.  I even stopped the Prilosec for several days just to see if it came back and it did not.

Yes, GERD and thyroid disorders are related.  Many of us who have thyroid issues have or had GERD or acid reflux.  I was on Aciphex, which is one of the stronger acid reducers and at times, that didn't even touch the reflux; my insurance quit paying for Aciphex and I was forced to go to omerprozole; I'd have to take 3-4 times the recommended dosage before it made any difference at all.  Once I was dx'd hypo/Hashi and began getting my thyroid levels stabilized, the acid reflux went away.  Now, the only time I get it, is if I eat too close to bed time or if I'm doing something that involves a lot of bending over.

MyThyroid -GERD Story.....I felt like I was choking. having hard time swallowing , and coughing alot when I went to bed. Had ultrasound which revealed small cysts and nodules, PC Dr. sent me to Endo,He is watching cysts and nodules closely. Endo sent me to ENT. ENT told me I had a VERY BAD case of Acid Reflux. Put me on omeprazole(sp) for 2 months . It didn't touch problem.he said I had GERD and EE ,  then Rx Dexilant for 1 month. Went yesterday getting better, recheck in 2 months, have to keep taking Dexilant.  Oh forgot, have had HYPOthyroid for 16 years.. Endo just Dx Hashimotos Thyroditis. So I believe Thyroid disoder and GERD are relted.  Good Luck!
