Thyroid

I have a multinodular thyroid. Total of 5 including Isthmus. Discovered in 2005, include toxic nodulars. I've been on methiamzole 5mg every since. 2009 US showed slight increase in thyroid. My Endo is suggesting thyroid be removed he says because of my age 56 and that I can't stay on meds forever. Is surgery a good idea? All nodules are 2-3cm. I've never had a biopsy

I have appointment on Monday to see him again. I was able to go online and pull up following. Never diagnosed as having Hashmotos
Oct 2011 -TSH 0.658 (range 0.450 - 4.500) In March it was 0.450

March 2011 - T4- 1.09 (range .92 - 1.77)

I dug out US at home, don't have it with me and it actually lists 6 nodules, one at 6cm. I plan to ask him why he never did biopsy. I feel anxious a lot, palpitations, hardly ever sleep through the nite I am on atenolol for BP and to lower heart rate. Last couple of weeks my neck has started to like ache and at times feel tightness.

At 2-3 cm, your nodules should have been biopsied. What symptoms do you have?  Do you have Hashimoto's?  Latest blood test results?  Should include TSH, FT3 and FT4 at least. If you have them, please post and include reference ranges as these vary lab to lab......

I'd want a lot more info before recommending thyroid removal....
