Thyroid

I had the RAI.  I have gained at least 30 lbs.  Then DR put me on 25-50 mcg---Synthroid/Lex.....
Now finally my thyroid quit so I am on 100 mcg.  I feel much better its been a week.  But I gained 4 lbs in the last week.  I cant afford to gain anymore.  Is this normal?  I called the DR and he said cut back on portions and exercise.  Duh.

what gimel said is really important
you need to know what test have been done and understand them...as will as making sure you get the right tests!!

Even if you are feeling better, the test will help you know what is a good range for you.

Remember it is Free T3 and Free T4 that will need to be looked at and help determine if you need more or less or a different medication.

I hope others will post on this...
but I found that for me it can take a couple weeks for my body to match the test results.
So if you are feeling better and the weigh is the only thing...just give it a few more weeks and see what happens.
It may balance out.

What thyroid related tests have been done by the doctor?  If Free T3 and Free T4 were not both included, then you haven't been tested adequately.  Free T3 is the most important because it largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions.  Scientific studies have shown that Free T3 correlated best with hypo symptoms, while Free T4 and TSH did not correlate at all.

If you will please post your thyroid related tests and reference ranges shown on the lab report, members will be better able to assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment.
