Uncomfortable feeling in lower throat?

Hi, I'm 16 and I have this really uncomfortable feeling in my thyroid area, it's like a choking sensation whenever I breathe in or it kind of feels like someone has their thumb under my Adams apple and is putting pressure there. This has been going on for three months and there are some days where I barely notice the sensation or I don't even notice it at all, but it has become a concern for me and I've been worried so much about it, I always think that I might suffocate and die. I've had an ultrasound done on my neck last month and it came out normal but I still feel it, I try to not worry a lot and that helps sometimes but I don't know why my throat feels like this, it may be related to flexing my throat muscles before or it could just be anxiety and I'm thinking about it way too much, but who knows. I've also had shortness of breath and difficulty breathing to go along with the sensation, though I don't have them anymore, no trouble swallowing though, and I have no asthma either.

Just to be sure I would ask your doctor to test you for possible thyroid issues.  Specifically they should test for Free T4, Free T3 (not the same as Total T4 and Total T3), and TSH.  If the TSH is above range, then they should test for the possibility of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis by testing Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies and Thyroglobulin antibodies.  Those tests are listed as TPO ab and TG ab.  In view of your discomfort I would also ask for an ultrasound test of the thyroid gland.

When you have results from those tests, please post them here, along with reference ranges shown on the lab report and we will be glad to help interpret and advise further.
