FNA and breast discharge

Hi guys.. I'm back for more.  I'm so frustrated =(.  Ok.. for those that remember I have a multi-nodular goiter with small nodules (the biggest being 1cm).  The hospital would not give me th FNA because they said they were too small.  Since then I can feel a small lymh node in my neck.  My endo is concerned and wanted to send me to this pathologist that he knew would do the FNA even though they were small.  HOWEVER, my insurance does not cover that guy, and he happens to be some freak pathologist that learned to do this, so there are no others like him that I can go to.  My question is has anyone else had this problem???  What should I do?  I can't get an FNA, but I need one.  Do I wait and monitor with ultrasound?  AHHHHHHH.  I was finally diagnosed with Hashimotos so my endo is treating me, and it is most likely the cause of my multinodular goiter, BUT we can't be sure AHH.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have another question.  About 3 years ago, I had a milky discharge out of one breast and one duct.  I had never been pregnant at that point (I am only 28 now), but they gave me a mam and a ductogram.  I was fine, and they just let it go.  Well shortly after I did get pregnant, and I breastfed my son for about 15 months, and he is now 2.  Both breasts kind of leaked since then around my period which I thought was normal.  A couple days ago, I noticed the color being slightly yellowish so I asked my doc about it.  She looked and said the color looked pretty normal, but they should have dried up by now.  She took a culture and tested my prolactin.  I wonder if anyone else had this as a thyroid related problem????

I'm such a mess... I'm so scared to look at anything on my body at this point

I have the same thing, they've called it galactorrhea...my youngest is 3 so I shouldn't have any lactation at this point, but it's for that reason that they sent me to the endo where they found my thyroid nodules (FNA scheduled for Sept 7) My prolactin levels are normal, though, and they did do a mammogram which was normal - I'm 33.  So far they're not sure how it's related, but it definitely seems to have a connection - I've had lots of hypo symptoms, but the tests always seem ok.

There is a shot they can give you to dry you up if it bothers you.  My friend had to have it a couple of times after her 5 kids, especially after she developed mastitis.  They gave  her the shot then, and then as soon as her last baby was born they gave her the shot.

Thanks... you made me feel so much better.  Ahh I would do anything to go back to the days of not worrying ha.  It seems like daily I get something new to add to my list.  My doc took a culture of it, but she too said she is not concerned in the slightest, so HOPEFULLY that will be ok.

I think everyone is different... and as long as it isn't bloody or yellow like pus, I think it's pretty normal.  ESPECIALLY if you're feeling letdown.  To me, that just confirms it's milk.  Try to relax... there are enough things to worry about without adding this to the list.  :)  Wouldnt' it be nice to NOT have something to worry about?  Ahhhh.... I remember those days...

See.. Mine reminds me of that colostrum too, so thats why i thought it was just breast milk continuing, that hadn't dried up.  My mom said it took her 2 years, and the thing is.. I still have that let down feeling like if he cries or something.  i was not concerned but everyone is freaking me out (like my doc who said that shouldnt happen).  Mine was yellowish sometimes while nursing too.  The nurse at the office said it happened to her too, so maybe it is common.

I am certainly not a doctor, but I am a lactating woman on Levoxyl.  My milk has not changed color with starting Levoxyl, but my milk HAS changed color through the course of me nursing my daughter (she'll be one on Friday).  Your milk can change color with your diet.  No, it's not going to be green if you eat tons of spinach or anything like that, but many women have milk that is yellow in color, while some have milk that is closer to blue.  Mine happens to be very white... most of the time.  Once in a while it gets closer to yellow-cream color, and I haven't noted anything that has a strong correlation to it changing color.

I do recall from nursing my son (who is 2.5 now) that when I stopped, I still had discharge intermittently.  I didn't notice if it was around my menses (I only had one period and got pg again) but I do know it was intermittent and somewhat "thicker" than before.  It reminded me of when you start to leak right before giving birth... and it was that color, almost like it was colustrom.

I think it's not all that unusual.  I hope that helps.

I just did.  I go to my endo like every month.  The thyroid has majorly improved.  They don't like to give me mammograms since I am so young.  She just took a culture of it and said we would discuss those results.  It is in both breasts and has never stopped since breastfeeding, and I guess my moms didn't either so I dont know.

I don't know anything about what would cause the color change or if it's anything to be concerned about. Insist on a mammogram AND ultrasound of your breasts!!!!!! Also ask your gynecologist for an opinion/dx if you've only been talking to primary care MD or endo. It can't hurt to get a second opinion!!! I'd also get thyroid levels checked again.

I just started taking levothyroxine and wondered if that had anything to do with the color change.. or it could be that I haven't err expressed it (for lack of better words) in a while.  My doc said she was not at all concerned, but I AM.  It seems like every part of my body has something.  She said its mainly only concerning if its REALLy dark, or bloody and that my color looked fine.  I am freaking out though, but do wonder if that was the beginning of my thyroid problem 3 years back.

I've also read somewhere that being hypo can cause lactation. But, don't ignore this, get a mammogram and ultrasound of your breasts (a breast ultrasound can detect things that the mammo might miss), and have MD check your thyroid levels.

Went back in archives and tried to find a thread in there where a woman spontaneously developed....oh, I hate brain fog.  Where she started lactating b/c of high prolactin.  Looking back through the archives I found where it is caused by being hypo.  So makes sense to me that if you have been hypo all this time it wouldn't have stopped.

As for the color change, I couldn't help you with that.  Couldn't even breast feed when I had my son, so no experience in this whatsoever.

Maybe b/c has been in there a long time and changed color b/c of that?  Grasping at straws really don't know.

Praying for some relief and a resolution to your problems.
