I am pre RAI and have been off my Thyroid medication for approximately 17 days. I had a total thyroidectomy approximately 5 weeks ago. Thyroid function was normal but I had some large nodules and the smallest one had a small 5mm papillary carcinoma. I started on 75mcg of Thyroid (T4) hormone the day after the surgery but came off it approximately 17 days later in preparation for the RAI. Over the last several days I have definitely started to feel the effects of being off the meds (particularly the lethargy). Yesterday, after laying down for several hours I got out of bed and turned the light on and it seemed to be very dim (I thought a bulb had burned out), and when I went to the computer all the print was blurry with some double vision. I thought my glasses were smeared but even after cleaning them, objects across the room were blurry. I called the endo office and the on call doctor, prescribed Cytomel (Fast acting T3). within an hour of taking a 5mcg dose I felt better and my vision improved. He did say that it was possible that my orbital eye muscles were getting lethargic and that was causing my eyes not to be able to focus together. RAI is scheduled for Wednesday (3 days) but I will attempt to get it moved up to Monday or Tuesday.
Hey there .I have verrry blurry vision right now.It is one one of the hypo symptoms I read about.I ahve been using my granny glasses like crazy.
Love Venora
Thank gooness you made me feel better.
I'm pre RAI, should happen within the next few days, operative word being 'should'. I have definately noticed it since being off meds but as I recall this swollen feeling and disturbed vision was present right after my TT as well. I was as normal as could be with the Cytomel I was on after the surgery and before the RAI. I hope that's all it will take after RAI to get back to normal. I have to tell you though, I have my doubts - this getting the meds right seems tricky. But what option do we have, right? We'll just keep trying and keep complaining until someone gets it right! :)
