Nodule / direction of growth

I have a thiroid nodule identified by ultrasound that measures 1.0 x 1.4 x 1.8 cm. How these three demetions are interpreted? My understanding is that it's (cephalo-caudal)  x ( medio - lateral) x ( anterio -  postetior). Do the measures mean that it grows into the center on the neck?

Also, is it possible to have normal thyroid test results and have hypothyrodism symptoms?

My thyroid function tests were  normal, but for 4 years I have experienced symptoms of hypothyrodism: cold intolerance, hair loss, memmory loss, etc. I did an Iodine patch test = applied iodine on two 3x3 inches area on my belly to see if the body will take up the iodine. It cleared overnight, suggesting that I do have Iodine defficiency.

currently waiting to see endocrinologist....

Thank you

This nodule is  1.0 cm tall 1.4 cm wide and 1.8 cm deep. It does not necessary mean that it is located in the center of the neck. In many cases nodule of this size should be evaluated by biopsy to rule out malignancy (cancer).
