How much does "normal" thyroid level vary?

I am 45 year old female, definitely approaching post-menopause era. Have had high cholesterol as long as I can remember. Have also suffered with carpal tunnel symptoms. I have been tested for thyroid regularly over many years  due to extensive family history.  (Grandmother, several great-aunts and -uncles, aunts and uncles and now my sister have been diagnosed with some form of thyroid condition. Some goiters. Some removals. )  My throid test results have always returned as "normal".

In past 18- 24 mos. my TSH has risen from 1.5 to 2.0 to 2.47. Doctor says it's still "normal"; no problem. I'm not convinced this is "normal" (OK) for me. I have so many other distressing symptoms --  heart palpitations, skipped beats, racing pulse for no reason (at night it wakes me up, in afternoon when reading it continues for 2 hours), uncomfortably cold at times, fogginess and difficulty focusing, etc.

I'm at my wit's end!  What is the range of "normal"?

In past month, General physician Dr. H1 ran EKG and a 24-hour heart monitor. Cardiologist Dr. H2 conducted echo stress test. All results normal. Heart in great shape. No disease or concerns.

I have now requested a thyroid ultrasound. Does this make sense as a next step?

Dont always blame it on the thyroid as I used to.
Have an estriodol test done to see your estrogen level.
You never know....you might be like me and find that you have gone through the menopause with all the menopausal symptoms (very much like thyroid symptoms) and are low in Estrogen.
My Doc tested me and before the results come back he said that if my estrogen level was over>20, I had gone through the menopause.

Ummm...my number was over 224 ! lol
Although I was low in testosterone.
Told him I would go for natural stuff for that....still researching into it.

Can you Post your Free T3 and T4 Labs with references, TSH does not tell the whole story, you can have symptoms and still have a "Normal TSH"  Today they use 0.3 to 3.0
The older standard was 0.5 to 5.0 . When you post result members can give you a better opinion Free T3 and T4 are the actual hormone levels in your system. Good Luck FTB4
