I split mine into 2 dosages and let it dissolve under the tongue. There are many restrictions taking it by mouth, such as waiting so many hours after taking before eating or other meds.
couldn't you get that drug store that is 2 hours away to mail it to you? They can take payment over the phone.
Please talk to Stell5439 about sublingual technique. Splitting the dose is helpful for t3 meds. Not necessary for t4. I still recommend compounding desicated powder until Naturethroid or Westroid can be found. FDA word is not good for Armour brand right now. RLC labs(makers of Naturethroid and Westhroid) are only having an issue with keeping up with the increase in demand. It will be available again soon. Have it compounded in the mean time. I wouldn't make the drive for the other.
I just returned from my primary care doc after having blood drawn to check my coumadin levels. I was diagnosed with a-fib last month, so this is the reason for the coumadin(betapace too). I was telling her about this Armour shortage and she said she had some. The dose she has is 2gr so I have to cut them in two. No problem. I have a pill cutter. I My endocrinologist had just called before I went tosee my PC and ordered a synthetic T4 replacement until the Armour became available. OR I could drive two hours to a drugstore in Springfield, IL to get the 1gr I needed. That was the ONLY place she could find any. Bummer! I read that letting the pills disolve under the tongue instead of swallowing them with water is a good way to take Armour. Also some split the dose and take half in the early morning and the rest around 2 P M. Any thoughts? Thanks, Billie
If you want to stay on a desicated hormone and have done well, then you will probably need to have it compounded until supplies are available again.(VERY HARD TO FIND RIGHT NOW) Word is, Armour reformulated (problem with the new binders and fillers, not releasing properly) without following FDA protocal, so you will probably want to switch to Naturethroid or Westhroid which will be available in approx. 90 days. We were on Armour and are now on Naturethroid and doing well. However the conversion chart is too modest and we are on 1 grain more so far. Armour had done great for us until we got our last refill in July. (bad hypo. symptoms and labs, suddenly). Seeing is believing so we switched 5 weeks ago.The other meds are having a supply & demand problem. They will be available again soon. Hang in their, it's really crazy right now. You will probably want to stick to something that is as close as possible to that which has been working for you
I switched from Armour to Synthroid WITH Cytomel added and having great results.
Synthroid is a T4 med and Cytomel is a T3 med. With a combination of the 2 you should be able to maintain your levels properly, and then decide what you want to do when the dessicated meds are once available again.
