Does it every end-Read at your own Risk

Hello All
Went to the dermatologist today for the spot on my back, and yes of course he said this is most likely Cancer..what type he is unsure removed it today and will have the result tuesday or wednesday.Heard all about how now I need to make sure I have things looked at sooner and how with the two cancers in 3 months lalalalal blah blah blah..I am so sick of that word "CANCER" how and when did it decide it could over take my life. I'm not having a good afternoon, I was fine when i left doc's office went up the street and my sister who works at the hospital in Pathology went to lunch with me that was nice I do not get to see her much we are very close, and we went and had mexican and sat on the outside patio with the breeze very nice took her back to work and drove home one hour by myself as my hubby could not get off work, and to be honest i really just wanted to go by myself today. But, now I'm home reading these pamphlets the doc gave me and I cannot stop crying. my husband called to check and me and he wants to know what is wrong..How do you tell someone how you feel that everytime you turn around they want to say Cancer or some time of disease all i want to know is when it stops when do I get a normal life. Sorry I just needed to vent a little...besides you all have not heard me vent in a long time felt you might feel I forgot you all....LOL :)) not really my friends.

That's around Venora's territory.  She lives in OKC and works at Tinker AFB.

My grandfather has been gone a long time, too.  He was United Methodist.

Tough on the back to see/watch .. my Derma gave me this hint and it has worked for 9 yrs for me and I've caught one changing on my backside this way --> When you get your period check the mirror for your backside .. or, do it same time you do monthly breast exam!

P.S. Also the person who had mega moles to be removed and they stopped after the 2 batches came back not melanoma ...............

I am hoping what they removed is atypical and if C, then early stages of whatever type.

What did the lesion look like?  Mine are moles that start out normal and lt. tan/brown and then decide to rapidly grow and change not only size and color but SHAPE!  The last one started to grow a tail and that is when I said something isn't right here.

Since my thy surgery I have a ton of new red/pink moles that are raised but they have said red ones are never a concern.

I was reading one of the other posts and I was thinking the same thing about this area removed from your skin .. until you get a formal biopsy back nothing is nothing ..........remember the other person on the board who had a huge excision on her wrist @ the same time I had mine and her Dr was almost certain it was cancer (did Mohs method of removing it) and her biopsy came back negative for cancer but some type of other issue that can lead to cancer .. inflammatory response of some sort I *think* .  She is on vacation in Holland so not 100% sure of all the details, but I point this out so that you don't read too many pamphlets or get swallowed up by too much info as there are many many things out there .. when they removed my raspberry lump 1/4" over the incision he was very concerned it was a Lipoma (get it .. the "oma" ending as in Cancer) and it turned out to be major scar tissue from a past infection that went unoted from a ruptured cyst.

It has high odds of being in the C word, but don't read too too much unless you promise to tell yourself it is "only info" at this point and not definitively for you.

How is it going being home these past two weeks?  Are you able to relax a bit and focus in on things you never had time to do before?

I am so sorry for your awful news.  Hang in there as best you can, it will be all right, I just know it.  Am praying for God to give you strength through all this and to send an angel to you if you need the help.

Okay, am going to be nosey now, what a shock.  Why can't you go see your family?  That doesn't sound fair to me.  I personally think everyone needs to be able to see their family.  My aunt in KC and I are very close.  Talk to her almost every day on the phone, but it is nothing like being able to wrap my arms around her.  Does not compare.  Hey, if you come this way to visit family maybe we could have a mini-chicken party.  Oklahoma is in the middle, you know?  :+)

Hoping and praying that things get better for you real soon.

There's a saying by Kierkergard (sp)..."That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.?  Girl, with all you've been through recently, you should be able to win a freakin' triatholon or two...or three!!!  Because you a VERY strong woman.  When you feel like you're not that strong, just know that all of us here are pulling for you and just come here and vent away.

Sending you lots of e-hugs!!!!

Between the scar from the thyroid, the incision above the thyroid for that crazy clump of scar tissue/infected cyst that grew and was removed, along with a huge scar from shoulder surgery 20+ yrs ago and about 9 other good sized incisions made for atypical moles (none melanoma .. so being at this mole thing for 9 yrs now my time is here I guess) I guess I'll take the best I can with the cortisone ..... although certainly will ask my Derma next time I go .... isn't there some kind of patch one can wear, too, I think ?

Yes, that is what I meant. Thanks for the proper terminology. I've had friends with melanoma, and removal of those definitely involves a lot more cutting resulting in more significant scarring. I was given something to help with the healing of my "head wound", but I didn't use it (I can't remember what is was called though). Are there techniques that they use to reduce scarring on burn victims that you might be able to try?

I agree... there is something related b/w melanoma and thyroid... I reall think there is.  I've only met ONE person in real life who has had melanoma... then on this board there are how many of us!?  There surely is a study out there somewhere?

I just dont' even know what to say... you've been hit over and over ever since your TT (and even before, but seems like extra hard post TT).  I understand you feeling like you're facing cancer every time you turn around... you are, actually.  But, you're going to come through it and I think that God knows you've had more than your fair share and he'll let you off the hook for a while.  Doesn't it just seem like He should?  I mean, c'mon... a girl can only take so much.  You need a break.  I need a margarita... wish we lived closer! ;)

Ah .. I get it .. in other words to get clear to the margin the incision is the size of a nickle?

My bicep arm area one is very narrow and about 2.5" long .. it is supposed to be cosmetic surgery but healed like YUCK and needs another cortisone injection...looking keloid to me .. had 1st injection about mo ago  but wayyyy too much scar tissue there and it tugs and hurts and I've massaged it down as much as humanly possible w/o another look by my Doc who is first rate .. it is me .. I heal poorly I've been told and also told thyroid surgery is a mj. risk bcz of my healing problems in the area of scar tissue inside if I ever need the other side out .. as per my Endo.

OK, now you're thinking I don't know my currency, but you're wrong. I should clarify that the basal cell carcinoma was the size of a dime, but the dermatologist took a bit of the surrounding area so the hole in my head (this isn't sounding any better, is it) was the size of a nickel. I think I'll quit while I'm ahead here.

Basal cell can spread locally if untreated, but even then all that is needed is surgical excision. The first time, the dermatologist removed it and when the biopsy indicated basal cell, he went back and cut a bit more.  It was still pretty small, right under my eye, and you can't even see the scar. I went back for a follow up or two, but that was pretty much it.

The second one was on my scalp, and it was a very superficial, spreading type with a nodular part in the center. It was about the size of a dime and the dermatologist pretty much excised the whole thing (about the size of a nickel), cauterized it with silver nitrate, and sent me on my way (no follow up even). It took forever to heal and I even made a trip to the ER because I thought it was infected (it wasn't, so how good of a microbiologist am I anyway?) Still, other than that and being left with a lovely nickel sized bald spot on the side of my head (fortunately hair covers it), it was relatively uneventful.

Yeah the "good" cancers .. don't you love it ARGH ... and I had the "good" melanoma .. very early and non-invasive below top layer of skin ... but worse than digesting all of it and moving on is that any Dr. looks @ you with this look in their eyes and I find I HAVE TO CALM THEIR THOUGHTS by blurting out that all is ok with it now, etc., etc.  Nice, huh? Then I come home and feel kind of down, etc. --> brings it all to the surface again even though it is thought to be emotionally all dealt with.  Wish I could blame my recent anxiety on all this crud but the anxiety would be a ton worse than he anxiety I have now if, indeed, it was from dealing with all this LOL .. I think I've worked it thru and this board is SUPER in supporting each other with all our issues :) :) :)

It does seem to be just too much, doesn't it?  I have had skin cancer twice, the first time when I was 25 and then again last year, and now I'm waiting to see what's up with this thyroid nodule (which is suspicious). My skin cancer was basal cell carcinoma (the other "good" cancer, actually maybe the "better", or dare I say it, "best" cancer). Maybe there is some strange link between skin and thyroid cancer. I am just hoping that I don't have the opportunity to sample any other cancers (especially the presumably less "good" cancers) anytime soon.

Hello dear? First of all do not panic! I know it is very easy to say but please try. I hate word "cancer".I had 2 worse days of my life. First one when my mom got cancer (I lost her in two weeks and I am only child... and she was only 50 y. o... beautifull young women.. but it was last stage of melanoma) and now me ( I got thyroid cancer 3 years after she died) I am only 34 y.o and I know that you young too. Even it is a another cancer ( doctor can be wrong)... he can not make disision (sorry for my grammar mistakes.. You know English is my second language)... You cought it early and you'll survive. I am sure it's not too late. Just try to take one day at the time. At least you are not by yourself. And all us here will support you as much as we can Because to me-this forum -is only place where I can talk about my cancer. My husband doesn't want to hear this word in our house. Everything will be okey. Love, Sveta.
