I'm told its normal, but I don't feel normal??

I have been having problems likened to hypothyroidism for years.  Today, my ultrasound results showed:

Right lobe - 5.5 x 1.7 x 1.6 cm
Left lobe - 4.1 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm
Isthmus 3mm

Thyroid gland is diffusely heterogeneous and
there is a solid nodule in the lower pole 1.3 x 0.9 x 0.5 cm

TSH is 3.0

My doctor says "let's just monitor it".  My mother had her thyroid removed at 28.  My sister, aunt and
grandmother are all on Synthroid.

Should I seek a second opinion?

Thank you both so much.  I am going to request a copy of my lab reports to see what the other levels are and set up a second opinion.

Hi,

also you need to ask the Doctor to check the active thyroid hormone levels (FT3 and FT4), and they should also test antibodies.

3.0 is borderline high according to doctors who are in the know and should be investigated further if the patient is symptomatic.

They say any nodule bigger than 1 cm should have fine needle biopsy.

If the nodule is 1.3 cm's it's my thougth to have a 2nd opinion .. just to be certain.  Did they do any antibody tests?
