I tried alternative/natural remedies. I could swear Motherswort and lemon balm tea helped, but I didn't feel right mixing it with all the meds, etc. Also I did a certain diet thinking it would help but...who knows? Some of it may have been psychological for me. Eating several almonds a day, getting cruciferous veggies, eating LIGHT snacks before bed, avoiding too much dairy, trying to eat plenty even when I don't feel like it. All I know is my symptoms seem worse when I don't eat much. It's tough when I don't have an appetite.
I was told there's no known prevention for some thyroid disorders--and no way to predict who will get one. I am the only person in my immediate family who suffers from this. Some articles suggest the sex glands set it off. Factors like stress and a poor diet maybe. To be honest with you, I think I've always been hyper. Even as a kid I was always nervous and scrawny and folks'd tell me I need to gain weight. "You must have a high metabolism," etc. That's the part that confuses me, because I thought Graves' CAUSED hyperthyroidism--but I didn't "get" Graves' until a couple years ago.
Synthroid isn't used to treat hyperthyroidism. its used to treat hypothyroidism.
Without medicine and untreated the side effect to you will be death. Not right away but slow and lingering. People think, "hey I dont feel sick" all the while the illness is plugging away doing bad stuff to your system.
No alternative stuff works. Dont waste your money / time/ valuable health ....if the blood works backs up the doc's diagnosis, get on meds and stop playing russian roulte with your health.
