confused about results

i got some thyroid test done , my dr says there is no need to treat but i just feel like im not sure. my results were as follows

T4, Total ------- 5.2 UG/DL
T3, Total ------- 160 ng/dl
TSH ------------- 8.05 mIU/L

I am COMPLETELY clueless about this and I dont feel like it was properly explained! I also have some weight gain, loss of period and other symptoms that I feel may be caused by this. can anyone shed any light on this?! thank you!!!!!

thank you so much for all your answers! I had a gut feeling that I should be concerned! I am in the states and I will try that info!! Thank you again guys!! my doctor did tell me that the level was high but nothing worth treating. He said that my thyroid has not stopped working so I should not waste my time treating just yet. Thank god for this sight and the people who care enough to answer! Thank you once more!

This result shows you are hypothyroid and should be treated.  For most people ideal TSH level is between about 0.5 and 2.5.

You need a second opinion and not be shrugged of fand told this is normal.  It's not.

I do not know the ranges for your total T3, T4. I wonder why the doctor didn't test your frees?

Your TSH is high. If you are having symptoms of hypothyroidism, then some thyroid hormone replacement should be prescribed.

I don't know why the doctor didn't treat you. You need to see an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid, not diabetes, as many of them do.

Here's a list of recommended endos if you live in the states:

Good luck!
