exercise and levothyroxine dosage

Irony of ironies, as an exercise coach and life coach there was I feeling dreadful; anxious, stiff-limbed and putting on weight.(90kg to 100kg) I put it down to raising our two young boys over 4-5 years. With the benefit of hind-sight this had been creeping into my system for a number of years.
The good news is that it was detected when being blood tested for something else and taking a slowly increasing dose, now at 100 my tsh is down from 20 to 6.9. Im less anxious, less moody/depressed and just feeling like i might enjoy longer bouts of exercise again.
I did a couple of hour long sessions which i enjoyed but I was very tired for the rest of the day. My question relates to how exercise affects the levels of t3 t4 in your blood. Could it be that when I exercise hard I need to up my dose? Is there anywhere I can read more about this?
Many thanks

Jamie Hill

Same here Liz.
I went back to fulltime work and found 'times' when I feel hyper yet an hours later, I feel ok.
Ive never changed dosage or increased because of the occassional hyper feelings as they seem to balance themselves out within an hour or so.
I was told by my Doc that 20mins exersise per day is ample with no thyroid until the meds have made the levels comfortable with me.
Hope that helps.

I've also wondered the answer to that question.  If you think about it, people with a properly working thyroid gland will produce the hormone as needed. Those of us with no gland or those on meds will take a constant dose. I'm thinking some days you'll have too much floating around and some days not enough.  I'm a runner and as long as I run on a regular basis I feel okay. But if I skip a few days I start to feel like I'm going "hyper."  I've asked my doctor about this and he says there could be some truth to it. But, since I don't have a gland at all there's really not much you can do other than play with the meds and find the dose that works for me. I'm on alternating doses now and I feel much better.
