Absolutely.  I had RAI and ended up in the ICU in thyrotoxicosis within 3 days.

I was on beta blocker as needed and my Doc explained that BEFORE you go Hypo, the thyroid tries to 'fire up' and you get hyper spikes.
Mine did that but I only took the beta blocker the once.
I was hypo 5-6 weeks later.
Try to get yr levels done regular (2 weekly if possible) and ask yr Doc not to let you go over 6.0 with the tsh.
Most let you go over 10.0  and you will feel horrible.
I started on T4 med at 6 weeks starting on 25mcg every 2nd day.
Hope that helps :)

I had RAI 12/08.  My written instructions from my Dr. said to resume beta blocker and methimazole 48 hrs. after RAI.  If my resting pulse was 90 or more, to double the beta blocker dosage.  My meds were leftover from pre-RAI, so I didn't need an additional prescription.
However, you should follow your Dr.'s instructions.  For me, resuming the meds barely took the edge off.  I finally went hypo after 11 weeks.

Hi robin

I had RAI 11 days ago for Graves Disease and felt great for the first 6 days but I have hyperthyroid symptoms for the past 5 days.

I have also lost over half a stone in weight over the past week.

So yeas, I take it that it can make you hyper again.

I left a message for my doctor but he hasn't got back to me (UK NHS), so I'm not on any medication.
