hello I was writing to ask if anyone in here has ever had Hives from taking Methimazole medication?
thank you i agree i do need to educate myself.
i go to Lexington now on a occasion.
How about Lexington, KY? Google shows that as a 1hr 44min drive from Barbourville. Here's a list of KY endocrinologists http://www.ratemds.com/filecache/searchResults.jsp?country=0&ddocname=&dgender=&dcity=&sid=18&dspecialty=Endocrinologist . It is so incredibly important that you educate yourself about your disease - thyroid conditions are not like other ones you've had in your life in the past where you can just do what the doctor says and you'll be okay. It is unfortunate but you must educate yourself to a crazy degree to make sure you get proper care. Good luck to you.
As goolarra mentioned, there isn't a doctor on my list that is near you. The best I can suggest right now is to look at this link of Top Thyroid doctors in Kentucky, and see if there is one near you that looks like a good prospect. This list is not always good at producing good thyroid doctors, but it is better than starting from scratch trying to find one.

The only doctors I see anywhere near you are in Knoxville and Cincinnati.
Would Knoxville be too far to go?
i live around Barbourville Ky.
Where are you located (generally)?
One of our members has a list of doctors recommended by forum members. I have a copy and will check to see if there's anyone near you.
my health care provider had a hard time finding this thyroid doctor anyways.i guess there not a lot of doctors in my area.i do agree though he should check and see how this medicine is doing.thank you Sarah
That's too long to wait to get retested. The initial dose we're put on is seldom the dose we ultimately end up on. Your doctor should be retesting about 4 weeks after you started methimazole.
Perhaps you should see someone for a second opinion. This doctor doesn't seem very well versed in thyroid matters.
i go back to the doctor june and i get my blood drawn one week before i go back to the doctor.i can't remember what day i go back to the doctor.i might call to find out about my labs.
You could call the lab and ask them to send you a copy of your lab report. I's hard to comment a lot without seeing some lab work.
When do you go back for more lab work to evaluate what your methimezole has done?
i don't have my labs my health care provider is incompetent.i had blood drawn on Feb 1 and my regular doctor only had Octobers labs.my thyroid doctor had to call the labortory to get my results.all i heard my thyroid doctor say i was 57% and thats all i know.yeah i had a hard time losing weight before and then me and my hubby split up and i quit eating and lost 15 pounds.we got back together and i have gained 20 pounds.i wish the doctor could give me something to make me lose weight.
Do you have labs to post?
Usually, people who are hypO, which you will be after RAI, are the ones who have a hard time losing weight. Has your weight gain started since being on methimazole, or were you gaining weight before that?
i am having trouble losing weight.i don't wanna get any bigger.Methimazole does help with me being tired.i do sleep all night if i take my Anxiety pill (Propanolol)i don't get depressed.i use to get cold sores all the time but it has gotten better.
I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better on the methimazole. What symptoms do you have?
Do you have recent thyroid labs to post? If you do, please post them and include the reference ("normal") ranges because they change lab to lab.
RAI will, in effect, kill your thyroid so that you will no longer be hypER, but you will be hypO for the rest of your life and will have to take medication daily. It's a very big decision, so you should try to learn as much as possible before you do this.
Typically, weight loss or inability to gain weight is a symptom of hyper, and weight gain or inability to lose weight is a symptom of hypo. Are you having a hard time losing weight now while hyper?
no i haven't been dianoised with Graves disease yet.the methimazole does help with my symptoms.will the radioactive pill help me to lose weight will it be easier to lose weight?so what can i expect when taking the radiactive pill?
I have not taken the radioactive iodine pill (we often abbreviate it RAI).
Have you been diagnosed with Graves' disease? Are you feeling better now that you're on methimazole?
Do you have any questions about the RAI procedure and what will happen afterwards?
i take one half of Methimazole 10 mg.i'm gonna be taking the radiactive pill if things go right.have you ever taken this pill?
What pill are you taking half of? How many mg's or mcg's in each pill?
Please clarify what you mean by the "iodine pill". Is it just an iodine supplement, or are you talking about a radioactive pill to ablate your thyroid?
