Finally got my test results

I posted this question a week ago and many of you ask what my thyroid numbers were...well I finally got them----
TSH 0.394   T4  1.10    and T3  3.4  Having uptake scan tomorrow to see if my nodules are interferring...I guess---the res of story below...the nodules were cold before....my sis and dad have hashi's

Help!  Two years ago I was diagnosed with a multinodual thyroid.  I had an FNA and they were benign.  I had a followup ultrasound and they measured right... 1.5 x 0.9 and left 1.9 and 1.2.  That was in March 2008.  Today I had a followup ultrasound and they measured right... 1.8x1.2 and left 2.7 x 1.8.  Is this significant growth in a year in a half?  Also, my TSH is normal but the T4 or T3 is slightly off.  My doc thinks I am heading towards hyper and has ordered an uptake scan for next week.  My question:  Is this a huge growth in the size of my nodules?  Thanks really worried here

OK updating everyone.  My 24 hour uptake was 25%.  My bloodwork is as stated above.  My doctor called and say while the growth of my nodules in 2 years is of interest she is not surprised.  I am not on any meds.  She is confident in the University of Miami's fna results and believes the same results would be drawn if another FNA was done.  She says she believes the prudent thing to do is watch the nodules and US again in 6 months unless they begi to bother me. She said that when they get to be 4 cm or bother a patient she recommends surgery to remove.  So now I am in a holding pattern which I know MANY of you if not ALL have had to do.  She believes that I am going into hyper.  My sis and dad are hypo and medicated.  My question....is surgery my only choice if and when it comes down to it?  What should I research ahead of time?  Thanks----

Why are you on Synthroid if you are HYPER???
You would be Hypo to be on Synthroid.

If you was hyper , you would be on anti-thyroid meds like PTU or Carbimazole.

Hi there. The growth is not all that fast in the time frame you mentioned. If it had been a few months then it would be a different story. Many nodules grow larger over time but are totally benign.
The fact your numbers are showing you are now heading toward hyper is an issue. Are you on any medication for thyroid? If so then your dose needs adjusting. If not then you may be starting towards Grave's disease.
The uptake scan will be a good indicator of the problem. It may well be that you just have a multi-nodular goitre. This is very common.  It could be that it is releasing its own thyroid hormones in an attempt to heal itself.
Do you have any symptoms of being hyper? If not then, many doctors do a wait and see approach. If yes, then you need some anti-thyroid drugs to help get you back to 'normal'
The uptake scan will be the first issue to deal with to see what is going on.
Don't worry too much about the growth rate of the nodules. Mine grew from about 1cm to 4.5 cms in less than 5 months. now THAT was significant.
Cheers!

According to online sources, nodule growth over 20% in 2 or more dimensions is clinically significant and should be followed up with FNA, regardless of the time it took to grow.  Don't fret!  It is not scary fast growth but...it IS clinically significant.  Some grow over days and weeks....my nodules doubled in size in just 7 months!  The uptake test should provide more answers, I am sure there will be a recommendation to biopsy the nodules to confirm they are still benign.  Hang in there!!!!
