Irregular bleeding linked to hypothyoidism?

I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for 5 years. recently I lost health insurance and stopped taking meds I have been on mens for 3months the off for 1 month the back on for 2 months. I saw a Dr. he related the irregular bleeding to lack of medication to control the hypothyroidsim. Is this correct? And if it is, when can I expect regular cycles? I have been on meds for 2 weeks.

I know that Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is often linked to hypothyroidism.....this causes irregular menstrual cycles and at times, heavy bleeding. My endocrinologist is pretty sure I have some sort of hypothyroidism (read: I have a crazy medical history these past two years, so it's hard to tell with my test results) for which I take 50 mcg of Levothyroxine daily. I was also recently diagnosed with PCOS. It makes sense that if one of your hormones is off-balance, your other hormones are more likely to do the same.

Anemia has also been linked to hypothyroidism, but I don't think it can cause irregular periods--just heavier bleeding--since the menstrual cycle is controlled by hormones.

Hope this helps!

After giving birth this past March, I have always had irregulary periods (1-2 weeks late)I was recently diagnosed w/ hypothyroidism and have been on Levthyroxine for 4 weeks.  I have not had a period since starting meds.  I am now 3 weeks late. When you were taking meds for 5 years were you regular?  I'm probably not much help but I can understand what you are going through.  My problem is that we are trying to conceive again.
