hypothyroidism

I have antithyroid antibodies in my blood and two nodules 1cm in size located on the right side of my thyroid.  My TSH, T3 and T4 levels are "within normal limits" however I do have many symptoms of hypothyroidism, very intolerant to cold, inability to loose weight, heavy periods, chronic constipation, mild depression, irritability, fatigue, etc.  My internist and encocronologist both have told me there is no problem and that I need only to monitor the nodules by having a thyroid ultrasound done every year.

Is it possible that I have hypothyroidism?  The inability to loose weight is something I'm finding quite depressing.  No matter how I diet or exercise the weight does not move.  I am working extremely hard to just maintain my current weight (160 approx. 40 lbs over weight)  What can I do to reach a healtheir weight.

You don't have to buy the book.  I got it at my public library.  I'm sorry that you are limited due to insurance, time and money.  Good luck with your journey.

Thanks for the comments and the book referral.  Not so easy to find a doctor.  I have tried that, you can spend a small fortune going from doctor to doctor trying to help you.  Most of them are of the mind that if you levels are in range there is nothing wrong.  My insurance limits where I can go and what doctors I can see and I just do not have the money nor can I afford to take the time off work to see doctor after doctor.

I will take your advice and read the book, I may be able to find something I can discuss with the doctors I do have.  Thank you again

Get a new doctor.  One that will treat your symptoms as well as check your levels.  It is possible to be in the "normal" ranges and still be hypo and need meds.  I highly recommend the book "The Thyroid Solution" by Ridha Arem, M.D.  It is not like other medical books as it can be easily understood by the patient as well as the doctor.  It has a host of very good information in it and I think it will open your eyes to thyroid disease.

Please post those thyroid test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report, so that members can assess and advise.
