Raised antibodies

Doc says antibodies were raised indicating Hashimotos but hormone levels were okay? My question is there anything else that could cause raised antibodies other than thyroid...also I Believe there has got to be something I can do to lower these...docs say no...says autoimmune....is there anyone who begs to differ? Thanks!

I am in the same situation as you. Normal thyroid levels but high antibodies. I was having awful hashis symptoms tho so i was put on 50 mcg of synthroid.  I have been on the meds for about 5 weeks and am just starting to have better days. Unfortunately nothing can be done  for the antibodies but I read that taking selenium could help so I've been taking that.

Depending on the tests performed, I'd have to say "Sorry, I believe your doctor is correct".  When you have thyroid antibodies, that would be an indication of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and there is no cure for it and there is nothing you can do to lower the antibodies; however there are things you can try that may "calm" them down so your symptoms (if you have any) aren't so bad.

It's not unusual in the early stages of Hashimoto's to have normal thyroid levels -- that's because the antibodies haven't done enough damage yet, so your thyroid is still producing enough hormones to keep you within the "normal" limits.

Can you post your thyroid lab results, along with the lab's reference ranges?  That would help members comment more fully on your situation.
