secondary thyroid malfunction?

Hello people,

Sorry for posting so much but my problem list is a bit long...

I guess it`s all hormonal things but what kind of?

Maybe it is the thyroid but i am not sure if it could be secondary or sth different...

I  have some subtle hypothyroid symptoms like easily feeling cold and sometimes dry skin , for example.

- sporadic sun sensitivity on skin (does not occur always when I am out in the sun), but i have  bleeding under fingernails every summer since childhood, with mild finger deformity especially on the right hand.

-mild mental development disorder with  troubles concentrating since i was a child

-from their beginning on I have had late periods without having ovarial cyst or other ovarial abnormalities

-migraine attacks, sometimes with aura and weird diabetes-like symptoms (nausea, frequent urination, feeling of generally being sick)

-rapid heart beat, nausea, weakness, eye twitches,,breathing difficulities, sudden nervousness, confusion which comes in attacks and feels like being hypoglycemic for hours or a whole day long.but eating  loads of food helps me against it.
Thats probably my weirdest and most worrying symptom.I have it for some years now and I remember that it started suddenly.
It reminds me a bit of hyperthyroid symptoms, it is sometimes better or worse.

Blood sugar tests, liver and kidney functions and the other tests are always normal.

My last thyroid test showed a TSH of about 0,72 which hasn`t changed much for years now and I know that falls in normal range
My ft3 and ft4 were normal but only about 15 percent (on the lower range), which maybe could explain some hypothyroid-like symptoms.

But although my metabolism must be slow because of the low ft3 and ft4 I don`t gain weight easily ( about 115 lbs) and I never have extra body water. And I don`t eat too little.
I know a bit about hypothyroidism because a friend of mine has it, but she has a high TSH, weight gain, tiredness and some other stuff I don`t have.

Screening oft the thyroid gland and thyroid antibodies showed no results and my doctor thinks that my thyroid is healthy, but my friend and some experts on the web say that my results should be higher and thyroid problems often get undiagnosed for a long time.

I also had MRI which showed no physical abnormalities on the pituitary gland, but my problems are not imaginary because there is some mechanism behind them and they don`t depend on my mental state.

It feels like  thyroid problems withouth thyroid results, episodic diabetic and hypoglycemic sx withouth blood sugar abnormalities and hypogonadism withouth PCOS,a crazed out nervous system, hormonal irregularities.... Thats why I researched on the web and found out some interesting stuff about the pituitary gland...

But they mostly write about adenomas and tumors but since the pituitary gland is a hormonal gland there must be also some pure endocrine diseases of the pituitary?

How could you test them out and do you have similar problems?

Thanks to all ;)

I have not heard of members mentioning bleeding finger abrasions, with hypo or hyperthyroid, Hypo does cause a Dry skin condition, and itchy skin, but not to the extreme that bleeding occurs. Most Hashimoto (Hypothyroid) Sufferers do well with a supressed TSH,(Which yours is) The Free T4 being half way in its range and The Free T3 about 2/3rds up in range. I would think that would also apply in the UK, even though the ranges differ from US, There is another site pertaining to "Parathyroid" which are a part of the Endocrin system, not connected to thyroid but located under the thyroid, there are four of these glands, and some symtoms are like thyroid symptoms, and some are not, but it might be worth looking into.  www.parathyroid.com   Good Luck and welcome to the forum.  FTB4

Hello FTB4

I am from Europe, so maybe we have another value system,
My ft3 and ft4 are normal low (the lower third), but as with my symptoms I have expected them of being elevated or on the higher.

TSH also normal low (not too low), but it is quite unchanging, like it has stopped getting higher or lower.

I have hypothermias that wax and wane, also these hyperthyroid symptoms vary from terrible to chronically and milder  to relatively healthy periods.

Do you also know skin problems in summer like finger abrasions that bleed without reason?

Your Free T3 and T4 are a little elevated, Most Hypo sufferers find that if the Free T4 is about midway in range and the Free T3 higher than T4 and about 2/3rds up in its range and a supressed TSH (Which yours is now), but with the symptoms you are having, it seems like you might be bouncing back and forth between Hyper and Hypo,Most symptoms seem Hyper, I do not recognize the Free levels and maybe a member here that is familiar with them will be able to determine them better for you. Are you in the US?
By my response, your post will be bumped back up. Best Regards FTB4

Hello FTB4

First was a pure TSH measurement with a result about 0,72 (normal range was 0,3-3,5)

Then I made TSH testing again (about seven months later)  and it showed a TSH of 0,713 (also same normal range as with the first test)

ft3 5,3 (3.0-10.0 pmol/l)

ft4 16  (13.0-28.0 pmol/l)

The weird thing is that I got this overaction-like symptoms from one day to another some years ago, but overaction of the thyroid can be ruled out with this results, I am quite sure..

All my sx are more on the overaction side, but some on the hypothyroid  (obstipation, hypothermia)

Weight doesn`t change really much, I neither loose nor gain easily.

Blood sugar tests have also always normal results, also when I am not feeling well  and like being hypo glycemic.
Strangely, when I am in one of the  bad  "low sugar attacks", it feels like my blood sugar cannot be raised appropriately for hours and I almost collaps.
Luckily it is only sometimes  that bad and then again I have almost no symptoms for weeks or only "panic attacks and nausea.

First Step would be to get opinions on your Levels, don't put so much faith in TSH If you could post your last Thyroid levels and the reference ranges provided with them, then members can see where you are in regards to your thyroid, Some Md's use obsolete ranges, including TSH ranges. So for now, lets look at those. Beast Regards FTB4
