Glad to hear you're home. Perhaps your other pill is vitamin d. Now, take it easy and take good care of yourself.
nissah46: Thanks! That really helps.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm finally home from the hospital, on 500mg x 2 pills x 3 times a day. I'm still not sure what the other pill is called. . . but it's supposed to help your body absorb the calcium. also 125 synthroid. the dr. told me i have 4 paras (he said he's seen up to 9!) and that they're all still in there. He said they're just bruised, insulted, and that they'll probably come back. i have a followup appt next week to get my stitches out & stuff. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!
Thanks again,
Tricia
The bottle says Calcium Carbonate(from oyster shell) 1250mg, Providing 500mg of elemental calcium.Sometimes I use calcium with magnesium just because the large amount of calcium can cause constipation, although it has not been a problem for me.Hope this has been helpful. You are never a pain!
Trish
Hang in there!!! It gets better!!! I am on my way back for a SECOND SURGERY as I have cancer. BUt it is not in my chest!!! YAHOOO!!!! Then I get RAI!!!
Rodeo Queen
Thanks. Is that 500mg of calcium carbonate? Sorry if I'm being a pain.
I take 4 X 500mg daily. I try to wait 3or 4 hours between tablets, and of course I don't take the 1st one until 4 hours after my synthroid. It makes for a day consumed with taking meds. Sometimes I go out and lose track of time and realize I am a couple of hours behind, then have to stay up late to get everything in. The Vit D. is over the counter, although my endo first prescribed rocotrol, but I didn't want to take it if I didn't have to, due to side effects. I take the 1000iu Vit.D with the first calcium pill.

Tricia,
I had my TT on Monday too (for thyroid cancer)...I didn't have any problems with my parathyroids (all 4 are still there, though he cut one up to check it out???) but I was advised to take 4 Tums a day if I start feeling any symptoms. I just wanted to say, I hope you feel better! I am very miserable myself, I feel really tight and achy...please keep us updated on your recovery. You are in my thoughts and prayers!
Theresa
I had this issue too. Over time the parathyroids did get back to work but it did take time. I still take supplements.
Also, my incision was huge too because my thyroid was big and growing all over the place. The surgeon told my husband he had to lift something, maybe a muscle or something, because it was growing behind and around - eek. The scar did eventually settle down a lot.
I hope you get out of the hospital soon. You'll probably have to be tracked a little more closely because of what's going on.
Take it easy and take care of yourself.
nissah46: How does the calcium you take break down? In other words, how many pills do you take? Also, what kind of vit d do you take? Is it prescribed? Thanks.
I had calcium problems. I was kept in the hospital for 1 week. Still have to take supplements 20000mg daily with 10000Vit.D.. I lost 2 parathyroids and the other 2 remained stunned.Good luck
Trish
