synthroid dosage

I had my thyroid ablated 35 years ago due to Graves disease. I have been taking 100mcg for years but now my doctor is changing my dosage to 88mcg.  My tsh is .0005 and my t4 free is 7.56.  Would those levels have caused hair thinning all over my body and hair texture change? My weight has pretty much stayed the same. I'm worried that the lowering of my synthroid will cause hairloss as my hair has just seemed to stablize recently. my doc thinks I have telogen effulvium due to stress in addition to the change in my thyroid.
Would my thyroid level change due to aging,as I am 65 now?

I believe as we age (especially women), so does our need of dosage for Synthroid.

I had RAI & TT for graves almost 18yrs ago. For 10yrs I was fine on 200mcg, but as I aged I started needing less & less, then between the last 5yrs I was on different dosages from 100mcg-200mcg, currently have been on 200mcg for about 6 months.

I think for me getting off BC & then turning 40 had a lot to do with my body needing a dosage change.

Here's a link to an interesting bit of information about telogen effluvium, which lists causes and treatments.

What is reference range for the FT4?  Ranges vary lab to lab so you must include them whenever posting lab results.  Did your doctor do an FT3 test?  FT3 is most important, because it's the biologically active hormone, that your individual cells, actually use.

Since your thyroid was ablated, why does your doctor think it might be changing?  Seems that s/he might be reacting, solely, to the TSH.

So you have any symptoms that would indicate over medication?  My TSH stays at < 0.01 and so long as I don't have hyper symptoms, we don't worry about it, since my FT3 and FT4 are good.
