We ALL hate their fixation on TSH!
UGH! I hate their fixation on the TSH!!!
Thanks goolarra. You have reassured me. Last week a doctor at a major cancer center told me if my TSH was "off" it would cause bone loss. I had a TT many years ago. I have had osteoporosis for about 10 years. I currently take Armour Thyroid. Doctors continue to want to "fix" my low TSH.
TSH is a messenger hormone from the pituitary to the thyroid to tell the thyroid to produce more hormone. So, in a perfect world, TSH accurately reflects FT3 and FT4 levels. However, since it is a pituitary hormone, it's an indirect measure of thyroid status, and FT3 and FT4 are much more direct and accurate measures.
TSH causes no symptoms. If FT3 or FT4 is too high over a prolonged period of time, bones might be affected, but low TSH doe not cause osteoporosis.
