thyroid nodule

I have a thyroid nodule for several years.  I have an ultra sound 2x a year.  My right love is 4.7 x 1.6 x 1.5cm.  The left lobe measures 5.0 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm.

There is a solid complex nudule in the lower pole of the right lobe measuring 1.2 x 1.0 x  0.7.  It also showed for the first time a 4mm nodule within the isthmus.   This last ultra sound stated I also had a lymph node on the left side of my neck.  This is the first time I was told that.

I asked my internist about it and he just kind of blew it off.  I had thyroiditist about 11 yrs. ago.  Do you think I need a biospy or do you think I might have thyrodist again?  What does HETEROGENOUS thyroid mean?

Thank you so much in advance.......Linda

Normal labs are also a cause for concern (along with the solid, complex nodule).  Normal labs indicate you don't have thyroidosis.  Please let us know how the biopsy goes.

Take care and *keep us posted*

Get to an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid conditions.  Sometimes they are hard to find and can be booked months out so, meanwhile, get in to see an ENT.

A solid, complex nodule is suspicious.  Has the nodule grown at all over the past few ultrasounds?

You need a needle biopsy and followup from a doctor who will NOT just blow you off.

Are your labs in normal range?  Do you have high antibodies?

Heterogeneous means "not the same" - meaning that the tissue in your thyroid isn't consistent - which could be current (or past) thyroiditis but that would NOT be causing the solid nodule.

Get to someone who cares ASAP.  Oh, then fire your internist.

Don't worry, we've all fired one or two idiots in white lab coats.  :-)
