thyroid

I started having the following symptoms (6months ago): hot flashes followed by sensitivity to cold, then I noticed irregularities in my menstrual cycle (every 30, 34, 37, 39 days) that only lasted 3 days (it used to last 5 days +), then a sore thyroid and difficulty swallowing (sene me to my primary doctor on Feb 09). The doctor ordered TSH= low, then he ordered T3 (low) & T4 (low to normal); the thyroid uptake with contrast showed an enlarged thyroid (borderline) no nodules with contrasts near the upper limits of normal. I also, noticed I can not get pregnant and there is absence of cervical mucus the whole month (dryness), I am loosing a lot of hair. The doctor order an MRI of the pituitary gland to discard tumors = MRI pituitary gland is normal. I also, tested for the antibody test= normal. My last TSH t3 & t4 showed = TSH low, t3= low, t4= low to normal… I do not know what to do I need help!!!!!! I am 25 years old and my height is proportioned to my weight. I just had done a lipid panel test, comprehensive metabolic panel, CBC w/ diff, THS, T3, & T4, &Total T 4.I am following 3 doctor’s appointments (this week) with my internal medicine doctor, endocrinologist, & gynecologist.

Doctor any suggestions/comments/points of view?

I should also mention that I have been diagnosed with IC (AKA painful bladder syndrome) for which I take lortab 10-50mg whenever is needed (2 to 3 a day), so I was wondering if this has to do with my liver (reason why my T3 is low)???

Both of your free's are too low. They should be at least mid normal range up to high normal range. In your case you cannot go by TSH....it doesn't show thyroid hormone levels anyways.
I bet you are symptomatic.
Also you only had 1 of the thyroid antibody tests done. You should have the others.
I have hashimotos, but it only shows up on 1 of my antibody tests, but not the other.

Hi and welcome. Would you please post the exact numbers with ranges from your last thyroid labs? That way it is easier to comment if we can see your actual numbers.
Make sure to get a copy of your labs this time around too so you can post your numbers here. Also it is important for you to ask for antibody testing to be done for Hashimoto's and Graves thyroid autoimmune diseases. Symptoms can start long before the lab numbers start to show. It also changes the "normal" ranges.
