If you haven't been tested since June of 2011, you certainly need new tests, as those are outdated. Even at that, both your FT3 and FT4 were below range. Your doctor should have increased your medication and retested you not more than 6 weeks later...... s/he's done you a disservice, by not treating you properly.
Your Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab), indicates that you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Hashimoto's is the # 1 cause of hypothyroidism.
An endocrinologist is a doctor that specializes in the endocrine system, of which the thyroid is part. The problem is that many endos only specialize in diabetes and are not good thyroid doctors. I hope yours is. A good thyroid doctor will be willing to adjust your medications in such a way as to alleviate your symptoms.
Most thyroid patients find that in order to feel well, FT3 levels need to be in the upper 1/3 of its range and FT4 levels need to be at least mid range. That means your medication should be adjusted so your FT3 is around 4.4 and FT4 around 1.5, which is substantially higher than yours were in 2011.
Just make sure that when you get thyroid tests done, from here on out, you get both Free T3 and Free T4, EVERY time you have tests done. You already know you have the antibodies, so testing those again, is redundant.
thank you for responding, as of 1-18 2011 my tsh 49.859 standard range 0.300-5.00 T4,free 0.6 standard range 0.8-2.2 the last time they checked my T3,free was 6-29-2011 and it was 2.7 standard range 2.8-5.2 im currently taking 137 mcg of levothyroxin and my doc made a referal to see a Endocrinologist, what is this kind of doc and what will he or she do for me. i get vary nervous when i see docs and forget to ask questions and just trust what they have to tell me.. also my antithyroid peroxidase on 6-29-2011 was 900 standard range 0-8
Please post your current thyroid hormone levels. Be sure to include the reference ranges, which vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own lab report.
It just sounds like your thyroid is enflamed. With Hashi's your body is seeing your thyroid as a foreign body, so it is attacking it. You may need an adjustment in your dose of Levothyroxin. What are your levels like? Eventually you will lose your thyroid function.
