weight gain after increase in levoxyl dosage

Does anybody have this issue? I'm so frustrated that I may change my dosage on my own.

It's not the medicine! You are gaining weight because you are still very hypo as evidenced by the fact that you still have ALL your hypo symptoms, not just weight gain.

Your blood levels are probably "in range", but that does not mean they are fine for YOU.  If your levels were high enough for you, your symptoms would go away.

Please post recent lab results and include reference ranges that vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report.

I am on your same boat!  I've been skinny all my life.  Then I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was put on Levoxyl.  Since then I have been averaging an increase in weight of 10 lbs every 2 months!!!  And the doctors will not listen or believe that it is the medicine!  I am currently on 150mg and I still have ALL my symptoms of low thyroid.  If my blood levels are fine, why am I still loosing my hair, still having night sweats, and have all my other symptoms?  I am only 10 lbs shy of my highest weight when I was pregnant!  Frustrating!

That's a very unusual reaction to meds.  We sometimes hear of people who gain weight, hypo or hyper, and others who lose weight whenever thyroid hormones aren't right, but you're the first who gains when meds are increased and loses when decreased (that I know of), just the opposite of what you'd expect.

Sorry, I don't even have a suggestion for you of what could be causing this.  This comment will bump you up to the top...maybe someone else has some ideas.

Thyroid cancer almost 5 years ago. Cancer was larger than they liked and they run me high.  Whenever they up me to the next dose, I gain six pounds. I was on .112 mfg of levoxyyl and my tsh was 0.003, extremely hypo. Changed me to. 88 and lost twelve pounds in two weeks. Changed me to 1.0 of levoxyl in November and gained six pounds. Weight gain may not be due to medicine, but it is due to how much thyroid hormones I take. When I was on. 88, doctor stated he was running me to normal. Go figure

Weight gain is typically a symptom of being hypo, not a side effect of meds.  Please post recent thyroid labs with reference ranges, as these vary lab to lab.

What meds are you on?  Your dose?  Do you have a diagnosed thyroid disease?
