The biopsy shows benign [non-cancerous} follicular cells, colloid[the fluid that fills thyroid follicles] and Hurtle cells
A Hürthle cell (also known as Askanazy cell) is an oncocytic cell in the thyroid that is often associated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis as well as follicular thyroid cancer.
According to the article," there are no specific i markers or features on electron microscopy that allow us to differentiate between benign and malignant Hurtle cell lesions." therefore sometimes the surgery is necessary to remove nodule where Hurtle cells are present in large amounts as the benign nodule can turn into the cancerous.

I will appreciate it if you could help me in explaining what is there for me in my thyroid biopsy result. I am a 48 year old woman with two left complex solid lesion upper measuring 2.2cm and lower measuring 2cm nodular goiter. On biopsy of left upper and lower solid nodule, the result stated, "negative for malignant cells Follicular cells, abundant colloi and rare hurhtle-like cells, favor non-toxic. Exactly what does this result denote, I am greatly confused and afraid of any outcome. I have been referred to ENT for surgery. Please help me in throwing more light on this problem and what you can advise me in this case. Thank you for your time.

A hypocellular specimen means in general an inadequate specimen. It usually means the sample was taken from fibrous tissue that formed as a result of inflammation.
