Any Information Appreciated!

I have posted on here before about a problem i have had but for years now it has been coming and going. I get a tingling prickly feeling up my arms and in my hands when i take deep breaths. It went away for a few months but has now returned and have noticed other things.

Very Dry Skin
Muscle Aches
Fatigue
Difficult to Breathe (sometimes only)
Difficult to Swallow (sometimes only and only when eating)
Headaches
Sharp shooting pains in eye and shoulders sometimes also

I must sound like a hypochondriac but its really annoying and would like to know if anyone knows what it could be before i go to the doctor and go through the whole testing thing. I live a long way from a city so its such a drama if you know what i mean. Anyway any comments would be appreciated.

Cheers!

I'm not sure if you will read this since it has been a while but I forgot about the comment I put. I also posted a qeustion on the diabetes forum because I had tingling in my hands like 2 weeks ago. I tried to blame it on chemicals I worked with, but i got a response on my qeustions saying it could be a side effect from my health problems. Sorry it took so long.

Hi Again
Just thought you might want to know that I went to the doc yesterday and he said that he doubts the problem would be hypothyroidism but i think is checking it out because he has done blood tests. I asked if it could be a spine problem when i get the tingling and he said he doesnt think so because it happens when i take a breath and exhale. He asked if i had any family history of blood or nerve disorders which from my knowledge i have no idea.  He pretty much said that he thinks it is very odd and would have to think about it some more. He has taken blood tests so i hope something is found from them.

Hey there
thanks for the info on that. I am going to try and get into the doc tomorrow if i can. I will def ask to be tested for this. So you gained weight after your son? I actually lost weight and was at my smallest. 121 pounds 5"11 but i have slowly put some back on lately. I think that is due to me eating **** though. I feel really tired all the time, i have for years. It would be great to get this under control. Did you get any tingling in your hands or feet?

Hi, I don't know if this will be much help, but I was diagnosed with hypothriodism, polyistic syndrome, and diabetes 2. the hypothriodism came first. I have never been a small girl but my lowest weight was 145 after my son. then I started gaining weight, feeling tierd, and irretable. my doctor ran blood test and gave me a ultrasound of my neck. It came back to be hypothroidism. He put me on a medication called synthriod. My mood is better and i'm not as tierd as I was. I have stopped gaining weight but it is hard to get it off. I would really ask your doctor about being tested. It is wierd how one little part of your body can effect so much.

Yes,I would get thyroid TSH Sensitive/t3/t4 & anything you can
get from them. Obviously the basic CBC/Chempanel & maybe ESR/ANA
but I'm not sure how your tests compare to ours by names or the
range. Get copies of any past labs for your file. Like I said,
thin doesn't usually fit the profile for Hypo. Make sure Dr.
knows about this in the family. He may order a genetic marker test. All is not black & white with labs or scans. And I don't
lecture on habits. I like my evening brandy! Alcohol does
deplete water from tissues so if I tip it a 1/2 more, I have
cotton mouth next day & trouble w/ meds. Even a dash of an
extract or lemon will help you drink more. Fatty foods cause
inflammation to lungs/tissue & they've found that the hotter-spicey foods bring down inflammation. If you like hot-taste,
go for it!.

hey there

I would'nt exactly say im extremely thin and gangly looking,(the doctor said that also) but will check with him about all this. Ive never had lab work done....not that i know of anyway. I definately dont have copies of anything like that. Cant say i have ever been for a check up eithier..only when i get sick with something like the flu that i go to the doc. The tests might be different here i dont know but will find out soon. I hope i remember everything! Thanks for all your help!

Hey there again
I did go back to the doc after the test. He said he wasnt sure on what it could be and wanted to send me to another doctor for his opinion...I didnt go though cause by the time i could actually get to the city it had sort of gone away so i forgot about it. Until now since its back. the test said that the fingers were normal and nothing indicates Marfans? You are probably right about the hydration. I dont drink enough near water really. I did have a chest x ray last year when i had sore chest but that was normal. Maybe being a smoker might have something to do with it? No lectures please i will give up one of these days =-)
Anyway i will ask about the spine thing, also you said that hypo doesnt happen with tall thin people. Well my great grandmother that had it was like me and also my friends friend was also just diagnosed with it and she is also tall and thin.
From what i have read you are right though. Do you think it is worth asking for it tested or not?

The longer metacarpal plus other characteristics does confirm
your doc was thinking the right direction to rule in/out the
Marfan's. You may carry the gene & it showed up in the fingers
from ofc exam? The cardiosystem is generally affected so he did
great on the testing. Sometimes it takes ruling things out to
come up w/ problem. You didn't follow-up so he's just waiting
for you to return! Well maybe not each minute. Anyway, I'd still
go back & discuss the breathing/hand issue. A C-spine + the T1-2
still may be it. Maybe even just a simple chest xray or a test
where you breath in a tube & exhale till you're blue might find
something. The breath test helps measure lung volume. They did
check a part of the lung system but it wasn't the focus. You
could have a touch of carpal tunnel but most wrists really hurt
& the word ache means it's there but goes away off/on. Flavor
some water & try to hydrate more. It's not just air in your
lungs. The tissues need water to expand. Maybe a few deep
breathings a day will help. Muscles ache if they don't get water
& oxygen. We want you feeling better & enjoying the tropics.

Hey there Demiguise
I had a look at the results from the test and this is what it they did
Arterial phase CT of the chest. Pulmonary venous phase through the upper abdomen to the pelvis inlet
Also a left hand xray.
The xray said the metacarpal index is larger than 9.4. etc and no evidence to suggest Marfans syndrome and the CT chest said the aortic sinuses with the aortic bulb as well as the ascending and descending thoratic aorta are within limits of normal. No evidence of dilation of sinuses, aneruysm formation or any pulmonary artery aneurysm identified.
No eveidence of Marfans Syndrome could be identified at the aorta or pulmonary vasculature.
At the end it said no evidence of any pectus carinatum, scoliosis, Scheuermanns disease or any posterior scalloping.
Whatever that all means i dont know but thats what i have been tested for so far....

I did go to the doctor about the hand tingling a few months ago and he sent me for a CT scan to check for marfans syndrome but that came back all goodso he doesnt know what it is and wanted me to go to another doctor which is ages away so i just kinda forgot about it since i have had this problem for about seven years. It sort of went away after a while anyway but now is back pretty bad again. But yeah i will ask him about my spine and see what he thinks.

Just had a quick thought after my post & saw a few more. Aren't
you happy to get so much info? Anyway, I re-scanned your post
& it came to me, Dr. WAS correct to suspect Marfan's. Since I
just read you're tall & thin confirms it. Do you know what type
CT was done? Try to get a copy for your files along w/ any labs
& updates. I still think it's spine but wondering what part. Since you have a breathing problem off/on w/ the tingling, ask
if a C-spine can be ordered, if Dr. can make a note to catch the
top of T1&2 or discuss if thoracic part of spine was ck'd. Also
try to increase water since you're in tropics. The hydration
needs to come from inside. You need new labwk but I just don't
think it's Hypothyroidism after you just said you're tall/thin.
Thin seldom will fit the profile of a Hypo-person. Also, didn't
mean you may have Marfan's only understand why they went to that
idea if you have certain characteristics or genetics. The aches
may be spine but the labs should show something do to the dry
skin & where you live. An EMG can help after a scan (MRI) is
more detailed but it's not fun having needles put in spine
before imaging. Try to drink more, get to appt & come back to
let us know how we can confuse you more. Gd-luck from USA.

Sounds like you should really start w/ an appt at the Dr's for
a clinical evaluation & lab work. If all is clear, then go
for an eye exam to ck out that eye pain & elimanate that might
be the problem. Ask your Dr. if it could be a spine problem &
you'd like a Cervical Mri. It could be compression on nerves
from the bundle area that maybe swelling & sending mixed msgs.
The neck has nerves that direct to actions like eye movement/
swallowing/etc. I bet you're due for a ck-up. Go & let's get
you feeling better.

its very normal to have 6 months go by and not fall pg. for this i suggest going to the maternal forum. your right some of those characteristics sound like HYPO.. but you need to just relax!

i did indeed once give my dr some info about what i found online and i was sooooo wrong. you know if you have been fighting to find out what is wrong and the drs are baffled then yes i say go search for the answer yourself. but you havent been to a dr yet for this right? like i said before- many people have found info and maybe one have actually had what they found to be true. others get worked up and then go to the dr and its not what they thought. you only have a week or so right? untill that appt.  stop self diagnosing it wont do anything but worry you more. of course maybe im wrong and suddenly you will have your answer out of the blue and then you can TELL the dr whats wrong and what to prescribe and make his job a whole lot easier! (just a joke)

Hey there again
I was doing a bit more research on hypothyroidism and it seems it can make you infertile. I have been trying for more that 6 months now. Im only 23 and already have one child so i dont know whats wrong with me. Maybe this could be it?? I was talking to my mother about this and she said my great grandmother had severe hypothyroidism. Whether or not it means anything if you have a family history or not i dont know. I think im a bit obsessed now cause i have finally figured out what could be wrong. Its been years since i even cared cause i cant be bothered with doctors. Would be interesting to know about anyone who actually has been diagnosed with this problem to tell me what they first noticed...I know im so impatient but its three more days to i actually find out and see a doctor!

Tingling prickly feeling up my arms and in my hands carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal tunnel syndrome typically starts gradually, with a vague aching in your wrist that can extend to your hand or forearm. Tingling or numbness in your fingers or hand, especially your thumb, index, middle or ring fingers, but not your little finger. This sensation often occurs while driving a vehicle or holding a phone or a newspaper, or upon awakening. Many people "shake out" their hands to relieve their symptoms. Pain radiating or extending from your wrist up your arm to your shoulder or down into your palm or fingers, especially after forceful or repetitive use. This usually occurs on the front (palm) side of your forearm.  A sense of weakness in your hands, and a tendency to drop objects. A constant loss of feeling in some fingers which occurs if the condition is advanced. However this could be, as well as your other symptoms, just about  anything.

You need to have this all checked by a doctor if you haven't already, to eliminate causes so that you can be treated properly and therefore healed. Start with full thyroid panel and the other suggestion here, per doctor of course.

Good Luck!

GL

ok but if she goes to that site and diagnosis herself then what? get online meds that you dont need a dr for? its risky and it usually isnt correct. she hasnt even seen a dr yet. go to the dr FIRST then google the possibilities of what you may have wrong. you can google all you want but if medicine was that easy we wouldnt need to have a dr :)

I just posted a Question with similar symptoms. I've been dealing with it for months and have had almost every test under the sun, and seen a few different specialists. You need to go to a doctor! It's true symptoms are very similar with various conditions. I've also been told that it could take years to get a definative answer. Sometimes you have symptoms, but no abnormalities will show up in blood or other tests for quite sometime. Good Luck, but I don't recommend trying to figure it out on your own until you've been through the docs, which sometimes takes many visits and persistance.

i dont suggest googling anything. we tend to find something online that has similar symptoms and we freak out thinking we have that particular problem. i have been guilty of that too and my dr told me to stay off the computer! lol. go to your dr and have bloodwork and a physical its the ONLY way of getting the proper diagnosis. good luck

You may need your calcium levels checked.  Those who have problems with their parathyroid glands (located in the neck) have some of the symptoms you are experiencing.  Try googling it.  Good luck.
