Continuous Fever for almost 2 months

Hello, I've been reading so many forums right know and nothing is giving any straight answers. my father has been sick for 2 months now.. An on and off fever ranging from 38-39 degrees celsius..

He have already undergone TOO MANY tests (most of them repeatedly-- more than 2 times) including ultra sound, CT scan, blood culture, laboratory for creatinine, CBC, blood typing, cross matching, xray, malaria, ANA, 2D echo, TEE, prostate, ECG, echo cardiogram, echo cardiogram doppler

all have come with no complication except for one, "infective endocarditis"
for 21 days my dad was given 1.5 mg of vancomycin per shot, and 2 shots per day.
but the fever is still on and off.

my dad was very stressed (he's 60 yrs old now) and wants to go home. so we decided to go home.
we tried all sorts of alternatives, even, faith healing. but is was still there,

i am now trying to rely on medical aspect again, so if anyone can help me, please! please! it would mean the world to me if you can be an instrument in making my dad ok. thank you very much in advance!!  :)

Sorry Elan, I do not know the medical set up in your country.
You are going to have to ask people or telephone your surgery and ask them.

I should imagine that if your dad does not have dementia, then it is his decision and not your mother's and she should respect his wishes.

Although faith healing is good for the soul, unfortunately it will not heal problems with the physical body.  Your dad needs to be under the care of a specialist.

Perhaps you can print out info from the web with regard to heart problems and show them to your mum.  Or try and convince her that she can still continue to go to the faith healer but also needs to get your dad to have the proper care at hospital and a cardiologist.

Post a question with regard to your question again, as someone from your country may pick up the question and reply with the correct answer.

Best of luck.

Hope your dad gets the appropriate treatment to make him feel better.
As you have a faith, pray for strength to get you through.

Sorry, I am not a doctor, and do not know the answer to your question with regard to stronger medication, dosage or surgery.

Clearly though your dad still needs to continue with the medication.

What I would advise is that your father should be under the care of a Cardiologist and these are the questions you should be asking the Cardiologist.  A Cardiologist is a person who specialises in heart conditions and he is the specialist that would monitor your dad's condition and would let your dad know if surgery had to be done.

Your dad's doctor may also be able to give your dad advice and/or refer him to a Cardiologist.  I do not know what the medical system is in your country as I am in the UK and here people get referred to specialists by the doctor.

i am very grateful for your response!

but do you have any idea why does the shots given looks like it never worked on him, i researched that treatment of this disease takes up to 5 weeks but in the span of 3 weeks, it looks like nothing progress.

is it maybe he needs to undergo surgery or may a stronger type of medicine? or higher dosage?

thanks in advance :)

Infective endocarditis is a very serious condition.

It is an infection that can seriously damage heart valves and cause other serious complications if it is not treated quickly with antibiotics. Sometimes surgery to replace, or repair, damaged valves also needs to be done.

The infection can be caused by bacteria or fungus which can enter the blood stream, but then some of the bacteria or fungus can settle on the tissue that lines the inside of the heart chambers and cause damage.  The bacteria or fungus can enter the body through cuts and also when having dental procedures done.  Should your dad need dental treatment, especially extraction, he would need to have a course of antibiotics as a precaution.

Because this infection causes damage slowly, it is highly likely why it was so difficult to find out why your dad has been having the high fevers and started to feel ill slowly.

If your dad was in hospital being monitored, then that was the best place for him.

Praying for strength to get through this ordeal is fine and can help you mentally, but unfortunately faith healing will not heal any damaged valves in your dad's heart, neither will any alternative medicines if your dad has damaged heart valves.

If he continues to feel ill and have the fevers despite having the shots, he may need to undergo surgery to have some of his heart valves repaired if they are damaged.

Your dad should be under the care of a Cardiologist.

With regard to fevers, you need to understand that fevers can be caused by many different things and usually that the body is fighting some type of foreign body, be it viral, bacterial or fungal.  If your dad is still having the high fevers, then he still has a problem and should take the advice of the Cardiologist.  It is also highly likely that your dad still needs to have the shots and his Cardiologist will advise your dad on the best course of action.

I presume that the Infective Endocarditis was picked up when he had the echo cardiogram.  The echo cardiogram looks at the heart and its valves and can see any damage.

Hope this helps you to understand better about the Infective Endocarditis and appreciate that it is a very serious and life-threatening condition.

If your dad is not being looked after by his doctor or a Cardiologist, then make an urgent appointment so that he can get the best possible treatment.

Best wishes.

Do you know what his cultures revealed, as to the responsible pathogen?  Whether it's strep or staph, is also relevant, or even some other pathogen, because without knowing the source, it may be difficult to treat it appropriately!
