Fistula Surgery

I had fistula surgery on my rectum 32 years ago.
I have a scar because apparently some muscle had to cut during this surgery.  This area is gets very sensitive from time to time and I experience a small amount of rectal bleeding especially after running long distance.   I have found applying a zinc oxide ointment on the area somewhat helpful.  Is this normal?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If zinc oxide is helping then there may be some infection: fungal, bacterial or viral. Since it is coming again and again there may be some dermatitis or diabetes or STD. Also it is possible that some part of fistula is persisting.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Hope this helps. Take care!

This is not normal.  I would recommend having your physician assess you.
