Gas pain

Just how severe can gas pain be? Can it hurt in your chest, upper back, ribcage, and make you feel short of breath? I am really scared that something is wrong with me. I don't have money or insurance.

Some techniques to help release the gas. Continue the kapalbhati pranayam  for life, to help with the underlying and ongoing health problems.

Pavanmuktasan
Help to release gas and wind, and is good for gastric problems.
Lie down on the floor. Bring left knee up, hold the knee with both hands and pull towards the chest, then hold for 2 seconds and release. Then bring right  knee up, hold with both hands and pull towards the chest, then hold for 2 seconds and release. Then bring both  knees up, hold with both hands and pull towards the chest, then hold for 2 seconds and release.
Repeat all this two more times.
Then bring both  knees up, (lock the hands around knees)hold with both hands and pull towards the chest, then roll forward and backwards about 10 times.

Bahya Pranayam (do before eating)
Breathe in and breathe out completely, hold the breath, touch chin to chest, squeeze stomach completely in, pull up your muscles below the navel, and hold for a few seconds, then release chin and stomach and, breathe in slowly. Repeat this  3  to 5 times'
Not for heart and high BP patients and pregnant women.

Kapalbhati pranayam -(Do it before eating)
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day. Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.

I agree with Monbeau92. You can also try peppermint tea or ginger tea alongside the motion they described. If this happened after eating a lot of fiber-rich food, try eating less of it and gradually building up. If this is a chronic problem, you should try going to the doctor anyway (and inquire about the financial help option mentioned by Monbeau92) because something could be wrong with your intestines.

Gas pain can be that severe. I learned a trick from my mom on how to deal with it. Lay on your left side with your right leg pulled up to your chest or stomach (a comfortable position). It helps me a lot and doesn't take too long to relieve the pain. But if it doesn't help at all in around an hour then maybe you should atleast call a hospital and ask for their opinion about it. And hospitals also have a financial help thing that I also do! I hope that this helped!
