Help for daughter

my 16 year old daughter throws up after any type of exercise, even if she doesn't eat.  she does not have her period either anymore.  the doctor said it is normal?????????   the first 1 1/2 on her period was on for 20 days then off for like 5 days and back to her period.  the doc put her on birth control and it totally stopped.  she got off of it in nov and has not had a period since.   She gets really flushed easy.  car sick. dizzy.  She also has gained alot of weight lately.  her energy level has also dropped.  I picked her up last week from school and she was walking to the car and stopped and throw up the sprite she was drinking.  this is normal for her.  the doctor does not seem concerned at all.  her blood work showed alittle anemia.   when she was 11 she lost 32 lbs in one month, had rectal bleeding and throwing up.  she had a colonoscopy and a EGG but it showed nothing.  the doc said the blood was from straining.  but this stopped by 12 years old.  and now all these problems.  I told her it was nothing like the doctor said but I am very concerned.   what should I do???

thank you,

Jackie

Has her thyroid been checked lately? Weight gain along with very irregular often heavy periods are part of thyroid disease. Maybe going to an endocrinologist who will check all of her hormones would be a good idea....Just throwing ideas out here. She sounds so much like an endocrine issue..that is just my gut feeling.
Keep on pushing those docs...throwing up with exertion is NOT normal. If your doc does not listen, switch until you find one who does.
Good luck....Sunny

I have a lot to say here...First kudos to you for being so concerned for your daugheter. Believe it or not there are parents who BELIEVE the docs when they say "tests are normal...you're fine!" Second I know you don't want to worry your daughter, but if she's feeling bad telling her everything is okay may make her more anxious. Believe me if she's not okay, she'll know it. Since I don't know your daughter I can't say for sure to tell her of your concern...just beware, it may REDUCE her anxiety if she knew that YOU  were as concerned as she was and that you are not going to stop until you get to the bottom it and she feels better.

I'm a seasoned "bloodwork/tests normal patient". You will hear that a lot, unfortunately, from A LOT of doctors. Not ALL docs are created equal. KEEP GOING until you find a doc that can give you some answers and help your daughter. That may mean going to SEVERAL different doctors, from many different specialties. Prepare yourself for a long ride. It may be rough at times. Just remember your daughter is young, inexperienced, and can not do this herself. She NEEDS you.

I'm assuming that you have just taken her to your familiy physician. You need to go see some specialists. I think the first two docs you need to see are an endocrinologist and a cardiologist. Some of her symptoms could be caused by a cardio problem like POTS. I'm not too familiar with this but there is a woman on here who's daughter was about the same age and nausea. That's what they ended up dx her with. Search for Lynn63 on this site for her posts. She may be able to help you.

I think your daughter's problems are hormonal. Have the docs check her serum calcium (this has probably already been done), AND her ionized calcium (probably not run), AND PTH (seriously doubt docs have run that one). She could a have  PARAthyroid problem. Totally different from thyroid. Also these tests need to be run more than once. That's because they can sometimes fall in the normal range. That doesn't rule out parathyroid disease. Please check out www.parathyroid.com. This is a web site hosted by the Normal Parathyroid Clinic. Dr. Norman is the leading doc on this disease. It's comprehensive and you will learn a lot!!! Also contact medicmommy on this site. She had this problem. She might be able to give you some more info. I know she mentioned to me that it affected her menstruel cycle.

Also, you mentioned she was slightly anemic. What kind of anemia??? There are many different types. Did the docs put her on iron? If no, why not??? Some of her symtpoms are consistent with low b12. Have they checked that?

I'd also have her checked by an obgyn. Get a second opinion if she's already seen one.

Oh...one more test. Have them check her cortisol levels. I'd have this test run more than once as well.

Good luck and keep us posted.

If she has any abdominal pain, also be sure to ask your physician about Chron's disease.

Has your physician ruled out diabetes ? I would also inquire about having an MRI of the brain done.

Good luck !
