Shingles without blistered

Was told at the hospital emergency I had shingles.  Great deal of pain on r. Side, goes around to front, one spot.  Sae primary dr. Today and he said itis not shingles, no blisters...I have lots of pain,he is having me take MRI on r. Side, possible pinched nerve. Who is right?  I am in lots of pain, worse having the MRI.

According to the Mayo clinic it is possible to have Shingles without the rash. Now they don't specify whether you can have no rash but have to have blisters or whether both can be absent. They just say you can have Shingles without the rash.

My experience with shingles is the pain starts even weeks before the blisters
