If you only read one, read this

I was on an antibiotic which gave me a really bad dry mouth. Eight days into the pills my tongue was cracked with trenches and anything I put into my mouth burned. After looking on line for help I decided I was dehydrated, and possible lack of vitamin B, with Folic Acid. Day one, Gatorade ,chicken soup and water. I started taking vitamin B complex ( with Folic Acid) and by day four, almost all symptoms gone. I hope this helps someone as much as it did for me!

With being on an antibiotic, the tongue issue was likely to have been a fungal one.

Antibiotics not only destroy the bad bacteria, but also the good bacteria and it is very common to get fungal problems and yeast overgrowth.  The fungus that causes the mouth issues is the same one that also causes genital problems with using antibiotics.  The name of this particular one is called Thrush.

You were lucky that the symptoms you had were eased by you doing what you did.  Sometimes an antifungal oral medication is required.  The one used to treat fungal problems in the mouth is called Daktarin gel for oral use (which can be purchased from the pharmacy without a prescription) and Nystatin which can only be got on prescription from a doctor.

Iron deficiency can also cause tongue problems.  And a lack of the Vitamin Bs will also present with cracked lip corners.
