Unknown Illness

Hello, my first post. I've been feeling unwell for about 3 or 4 months now. I've been to see my local doctor about 6 weeks ago and he said my symptoms point to a virus and there was nothing I could do but rest and eventually it would go. 6 weeks later I am feeling a bit better and it is nowhere near as bad as it was but I am still having episodes. Basically my symptoms are...

- Nausea
- Dizzyness
- A really spaced out feeling
- I was feeling anxious but that has gone
- Uncomfortable stomach
- Lack of concentration and motivation
- General unwell feeling
- and I'm tired all the time
- I've also suffered from kind of cramps for nearly 10years now, the hand and foot on my right side spasm and cramp for about 10 seconds if i stand up or move too quickly

I'm 25, overweight (about 200lbs), I eat a fairly healthy diet, I exercise 2 to 3 times a week, I don't smoke, I drink about 4-6 beers a week, take vitamins and minerals, one thing the doctor did say is that I had slightly high blood pressure for my age (but he wasnt concerned enough to do anything more).

I realise I should try and lose some weight but this is a long term goal, its also very difficult when I'm not feeling well a vicious circle. Any suggests as to what may be wrong and what I could do to feel better would be greatly appreciated. Its starting to ruin my quality of life.

Hi, I've been off work now for 3 weeks. I've been to the doctor about this and he thinks it's probably viral!! Isn't that what they say when they don't have any answers for you? My symptoms are these and I'd really appreciate some help cos it's starting to get me down.
Mild headachey feeling permanently
fatigue permanently
aches around my neck area
nausea sometimes
metallic taste in mouth
spaced out feelin in my head

The doctor has tested my thyroid, liver and kidney function, blood count, glandular fever, viscosity and cancer.
I've since found an itchy rash to the right of my right armpit and in my armpit it also has a lump which has maybe contributed to the ache I now have in my right arm.

Please help. any suggestions appreciated.

contrary to the other post you might just be experiencing anxiety and not know it; all of the physical and mental symptoms you have mentioned are caused by/accompany anxiety.
excercise, antidepressants,and/or anxiolytics, will help

If the Dr. did bloodwk., get copies for a 'Hm-health file' &
maybe a daybook to journal short notes of how you feel/what you did/where you went, to see if a pattern forms. Sounds like
you're trying & doc aint! There's a condition called sub-depression, that you feel bad abt one thing & it snowballs w/
other symptoms. It holds you back & you feel ill. You may be
thinking healthy eating but alot of fruits/vegs have carbs that
can spike insulin & put you in a brain/body fatigue. Like
hypothyroidism. Try 6 sm meals a day (snacks, not sit downs) of
sm-portions. Also, good test for hypothyroid is trying a hand
full of almonds every few hrs or apple slices w/ a little
peanut butter on them. Yes, I said peanut butter. The combo
makes complex-carbs that give you slow release energy instead
of gulp/spike/crash/fatigue. Labs really are needed to ck. glucose number & red-cells. If you had a virus, you may also
be anemic. You sound like a self motivator. Get tests & read what doc maybe missed & let us help you.

If I was you I'd have my liver checked out right away. I also agree with Charley, I'd have those things checked out too but your symptoms could be liver related. I'd cut the alcohol until you get some answers, alcohol acts like "fuel to the fire" of illness so proceed with caution. Liver problems can fly under the radar for a long time. Have the doctor test your liver enzymes and do a full hepatic panel and screen you for viral hepatitis ( B and C) to make sure you don't have that, I'd also have him do an ultrasound if it was me and check for fatty liver as being overweight can contribute to that condition and it is also very common ad can cause your symptoms. Many, many people have hepatitis and don't have risk factors or know they have it. All of these tests I mention are simple blood tests except the ultrasound and that is an easy one too.

PS.
The last thing anyone overweight needs is someone teling them they need to  lose weight..duh! like you don't already know THAT. Exercise is great but without dietary changes its hard to lose even with your regular exercise. Reduction of amounts of food at each sitting, eliminating red meats except maybe once a week and one added day of exercise and I bet you will see results. You don't have to change your diet completely, you can still enjoy the foods you prefer just eat less of them. I have a son your age and this worked great for him. He has been able to keep it off too, which is key.

Hi, your symptoms could be alot of things so I'm going to suggest just looking at a few.
Have you had your thyroid checked?  You have some symptoms of hypothyroidism.  Also, check out the possibility of complex or partial seizures - I know the word "seizure" sounds serious, but some are very common - for example "complex partial seizures" - can cause quite a few of your symptoms.  I am certainly not one to tell you to lose weight - I am in that struggle right now myself - I have hypothyroidism, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, TMJ, and now I am dealing with thyroid nodule - upcoming biopsy soon.  So, just a few things to check out.  I have heard others here also suggest checking B12 levels as well.  It could be something really little but when it comes to your health, sometimes you have to push the docs to do things and rule things out in order for you to atleast have peace of mind.  I wish you luck in your search - keep us posted.
