xiphoid process 'snap' ouch!

I snapped my xiphoid last week doing an exercise lying on my stomach/chest with my arms lifted up a few inches off the ground, it did not take long for the xiphoid to snap as it has been enlarged to the size of a walnut most of my life after a football injury in high school 40 years ago.
I saw the doctor, a regular md, he had very little to say other than not to exercise or even walk much for the next 12 weeks!  What am I to do, sit around and get fat for three months?
I am taking Advil but would like to expedite the healing process, does anyone know of any type of device or therapy which would speed up the healing time?  Isn't ultra sound or something like that suppose to help with healing?  I thikn PT's use it for sprains etc. you would think some smart guy would have invented something similar to what they use on the tv show Star Trek to speed up the healing but oh no, that guy has been lazy and has done nothing about it, where is that guy?
