Why do my ankles swell when I fly east but not when I fly west?

On 3 different occasions I have flown to India, Europe and Cabo. Each time when I flew east my ankles were fine but when I fly west my ankles swell to the size of grapefruits, except Cabo which minor swelling, do you know why?

Maybe it's not the flying itself but whatever it is you're doing when you visit these places.  In Cabo, I'm assuming you swam and ate and sat around mostly, but the other places might have involved a lot of walking.  It also might involve what you ate or drank.  If you've flown other places in your life, did you have the problem, or is it just recently?  And does it only happen on long flights back after long trips or does it also happen if you just do a short hop flight.  Because I'm thinking it might not be the flying, though I certainly don't know.  Flying across time zones causes a lot of oxidation, but that would apply in both directions.
