Hi
Thanks for keeping me posted!
Well, it is possible that your symptoms are due to asthma and not due to your medication. Many a times a drug you have been taking for a long time too starts showing its side effects. Also if you work in an environment where there is pollution, have a history of allergies or if you have a family history of asthma, then it is possible that you have it too. Also it may just be a bout of bronchitis. Your PFR is definitely low. It is difficult to comment without examining you. The only thing I am not in favor of is starting a steroid inhaler so early in the course of treatment. There is no harm in taking a second opinion.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I went to my Dr today and he was quite adamament that the beta blocker I am taking for my bp is quite safe and as I have been on it for 5 years now he says it is not responsible for my shortness of breath and cough, He also says I have bronchitis as I was coughing up brown/greyish phlem. He gave me a peak flow tube to blow into and it showed at very low reading of 175 which he says is all the signs of Asthma. He has now put me on a steroid inhaler called Becotide Evohaler 250 micrograms and I am to inhale one puff morning and evening as a preventer and Salamol CFC-Free Inhaler as a reliever! I asked for a lung function test which he has arranged for end of April. I am worried about taking all this medication. Do you think I should get a 2nd opinion. I really appreciate your help
Many thanks. M
Thank you so much for your explaination of my medication. I have an appointment with my Dr on Monday to discuss this whole issue of my breathlessness which he now thinks is Asthma, as my chest x-ray results came back clear. I will most certainly question him about my bp med and see what he has to say and keep you posted. He has put me on two inhalers, one preventer and one reliever to help with my breathing until I see him Monday, so I really appreciate your help on this.
Kind Regards, M.
Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Centyl is a diuretic and Centyl-k is a diuretic with potassium. Nebilet is a beta blocker. It acts by dilating the blood vessels and thus reducing blood pressure. This drug can cause wheezing, trouble breathing and shortness of breath. People with respiratory diseases should take a beta blocker with care. The drug may aggravate their symptoms.
Hope this helps. Maybe you can talk to your doctor and start another drug in its place. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
