worried about a problem

Hello, thanks for Your help. I am getting a continous breakout on My ring finger, that is like a boil (no mucus) or a burn or a dried out pimple, it gets red and irritated and is very noticeable.. it feels sort of like a burn and looks like one too.. but it is not one. It seems to happen more when I am having other issues such as ear/nose or throat problems. it is just so weird what could it be? what is the relevance of the pinkie finger in overall health? the only way to stop it from itching, burning and getting worse is cortisone cream application.. I am baffled thanks for Your help!

Hi for the past few months I have been having the same problem.  But I don't know if you have noticed but I also get slight swelling in my hand.  It is also my ring finger and it does get crusty but first red and it happens immediately.  It is pretty much like hives they don't have to be large bumps to be hives.  I have kept my ring off for weeks now and no symptoms.  Also  I would suggest cleaning your ring, I was afraid I had household chemicals on it or something. I have worn my rings for 6 years and now I am unable.  I hope this helps, Crystal

Hi cat-
my sister worked in a salon, a colorist, for 5 years before she started getting frequent sinus infections that would NEVER go away. Also she had one hand (ring finger particularly) that was like chapped and cut, bleeding, swollen, just unreal pain- it took many trips to the allergist to find out that she was allergic to the chemicals in the hair dye---causing sinus infections and her hand 'breakout'...she's no longer able to color hair or work in that field any more, but she's 100% better...It was a process of elimination from pets, to seasonal allergies, to latex to jewelry. Hopefully this was a lil insightful... good luck

Thankyou, I have never worn jewelry on that finger, I am taking antibiotics for a sinus infection right now, do You mean a bacterial skin infection or an inner bacterial infection, if there is such a thing. it is red irritated and itchy only on hand side and bottom of finger sort of close to knuckle. I have mentioned it to My doctor, but it is always when it has calmed down and nothing can be seen, it seems to be worse at various times and gone at others?

I mean a bacterial infection in the skin. You may also consider a fungus, such as the one that causes athletes foot. It can grow on your hand. You can try an OTC athlete's foot cream, or get an Rx for diflucan if you think that's what it is. Sometimes you have to be persistent with your Dr. to get results. Sad but true.

If you wear a ring on that finger, you may have developed an allergy to one of the metals. Even sterling silver has trace metals that can irritate some people. Some skin allergies develop very suddenly. Try putting the cortisone cream twice a day until the rash is completely gone. Then, don't wear anything on that finger, and see if it stays clear. If you still have a problem after that, or if the rash won't go away, you may consider a bacterial infection, and see a Dr.
