Bacterial Protatitis

Bacterial Protatitis

I am recently married.  My husband and I celebrted the traditional bachelor and bachelorette evenings.

Four or five weeks later he stated to experience frequent urination, pain in his back, scrotum, and belly.  He had never had this type of experience before.
Finally he saw a doctor, who said he had Prostatitis.  The physician gave him a script for Cipro for 30 days.  And as far as I know... no cultures or labs were performed.

Is it possible for a man in his early to mid 30s to get Bacterial Prostatitis from anything other than unporotected sex?

I am worried that he is lying to me.....................

It is possible to get prostatitis outside of unprotected sex.  Bacteria from a UTI, for instance, can migrate up and infect the prostate.

Obtaining a urine test as well as a prostatic massage can be considered.  Sending any prostatic fluid for analysis and culture can also be an option.

If the symptoms continue, a transrectal ultrasound can be considered to rule out an abscesses.

These options can be discussed with a urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
