Blood in Urine Not an UTI??

by Thickums, Jul 02, 2008 11:47PM
HELP!!!!

I had blood in my urine December 2006.  I went to the doctor and it was determined to be a UTI.  I was prescribed Cipro.  I took the medicine and the blood went away instantly.  Then, around Oct 2007, I noticed that I had blood on my tissue after I urinated.  The blood appeared briefly in Oct and Nov 2007 but, it only appeared within 2-3 days of my menstral cycle.  I went to the doctor, again.  The doctor said that I did not have a UTI and suggested that I see a Urologist or a Gyn, in case it was vaginal bleeding.  Well, the day after I went to the doctor, I did not see anymore blood on my tissue.  My cycle started within 2 days, so I did not follow up with a Urologist.  As of last week, I noticed small amounts of blood on my tissue, again!!  Then a few days later, I saw blood in my urine.  I had the same symptoms as the last UTI (slight burning during urination, urgency to urine, cloudy urine, etc.), so I went to the doctor.  This time, after another urinalysis, the doctor said that I did not have a UTI and that I really needed to seek the help of a Urologist.  Now I am concerned!!  In Oct 07, I only had blood on tissue, now it's noticeable in the toilet!!  I need to see a Urologist but I do not have insurance!!  I can't imagine how much that will cost or if anyone would even help me!!  I am losing sleep trying to figure out what it can be.  I am 28, 5" 11", and weigh 300 lbs.  My grandmother just died of pancreatic cancer due to complications with diabetes.  I have always been perfectly healthy.  I have never had any health problems other than STD's as a teenager.  I don't have a family history of any kidney diseases.  I don't have high blood pressure or any signs of diabetes.  My aunt is a nurse and she said I could just have kidney stones.  She is trying to assist me in not worrying.  But, I have a seven year old daughter that I have to live for!!  I can not have any medical problems this early in life!  I read that signs of progressed kidney cancer is blood in the urine!!  I know I need to go to the doctor and I would of been there ASAP if I had insurance!!  I applied for health insurance today but, I am afraid because of this episode, they won't cover any expenses following it.  I know I can't get an answer for what can be causing the bleeding but I do need some type of assistance!!  I need to know that this is common and that in most cases, it is not serious.  I NEED HELP!!

Thanks,

Scared for my Life!!

Hi,
It is possible that the bleeding could be due to a kidney stone. The blood in urine could be originating anywhere along the tract.
You can identify the part of the tract affected based on when the blood a appears in the urine - beginning, throughout, or end of micturition.

Since your symptoms were pain, frequency, and cloudy urine, it is possible that you still have cystitis or an infection further up the tract.

Kidney tumors usually present with painless bleeding.

You should just start a course of antibiotics to eliminate your symptoms. That will not be an issue with the insurance.

SOme measures you can take to help cure this infection include
Drinking fluids in excess of 2000 ml per day
Increasing intake of vitamin C-rich foods and citrus and cranberry juices.
Avoiding caffeine and alcohol.
Maintain hygiene.

Add vitamin A supplements to your diet.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
regards
