Kidney Reflux Grade III-IV on right Grade I-II on left

by twiss, Jan 16, 2006 12:00AM
My nephrew is 4 months old.  He was diagnosed with kidney reflux and he has been on Antibiotic therapy since his birth (9/3/05).
On a daily basis he experiences extreme gas pains and constipation.  He is on a stool softener;however,it only helps a little and only once in a while.  His stools are round and hard.  He has a very painful cry when he does have a bowel movement and when he has gas pains.  He is currently on Septra.  Please help us with any information and recomendations. It is so heart renching to see him so uncomfortable.

Thank You

Chronic constipation can be so uncomfortable in children.  Further evaluation can be considered to ensure there isn't any underlying GI disease leading to the constipation.

This can include a barium enema, anorectal manometry, or colonic transit studies.

Diseases associated with chronic constipation can include Hirschprung's disease, lead poisoning, thyroid disorders, or Cow's milk intolerance.

These disorders should be evaluated for by your nephew's pediatrician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
