Post STD Problem

I am a 42 year old male in general good health.  About 3 months ago I contracted clamidyia from unprotected sex.

I was treated with a single 1 gram dose of zithromax.  But still had a burning sensation and sensitive penis head.

It is now 1 month since treatment and a follow up urine test has cleared me for any STD. However I still have a buring sensation along the shaft of my penis which usually clears after I pass urine. It does not burn when I urinate.  My testicles where also constantly tightened up into my body and when I returned to my GP he presribed me Centrax as he felt that it was anxiety causing the current probelms.

The Centrax has relaxed me and testicles are hanging as normal but I still have the burning sensation again especually before I need to pee. As an asisde I had vey bad piles while all this was going on which have now cleared and thrush from the antibotics treated with diflucan! Still using canesten talc to keep my penis dry.

I am at the end of my nerves. Will I ever feel normal again. This is really geting me down but  wonder if it is all in my head!

I would continue to test for Chlamydia to see if it has been appropriately eradicated.  Persistant infection would warrant evaluate of the prostate - which can be difficult to treat.  I would suggest a thorough digital rectal exam with prostatic massage to culture out any prostatic fluid.  You can also consider imaging studies of the prostate - such as a transrectal ultrasound - for further evaluation.

If negative, you can consider a cystoscopy to evaluate for non-infectious causes of the burning (i.e. a urethral polyp or stricture).  This can be discussed with your urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
