Terrible UTI

by gnatbug, May 02, 2009 02:54AM
How long does it normally take on antibiotics to heal from a urinary tract infection?  My info is quite complex.  I had my period last week and was feeling very irritated at the end of it.  A burning sensation and itchiness around my outer vagina and inside.  I thought that it was a yeast infection and so I treated it two nights in a row.  Lots of moisture down there and make it better even with the medication.  A day later after my period ended my inner labia were very irritated and it burned terribly to go to the bathroom.  I had a high temp and couldn't function.  Had bought vagisil to help relieve the outer part of the vagina until I could go see a doctor.  Went to doctor and she did all the tests on me, including stds and they all came back negative except for the urinalisis. She prescribed me Cpyro and Phenazopyridine.  I took it Monday evening and threw it up pretty fast as I had not eat very much that day and felt terrible.  The next day I kept it down but still  burned terribly.  Wednesday I  was considered to be the worst of it as could not use the bathroom at all due to the labia being swollen and irritated.  I talked to my doctor and she prescribed me then a yeast infection tablet which helped the following day.  Today has been a little bit better but still quite a bit irritated. Another thing that has bothered me is that I am still discharging from my uerthra a yellow watery discharge with a brown pus.  I also still have been getting low grade fevers in the afternoon.  I am just wondering if this is normal to be still be going on four days later.  I appreciate any help and apologize for going into the yeast stuff as I know this is a forum of urology.

P.S.  I did throw my antibiotic again on Thursday(yesterday)  I am wondering if throwing up twice had affected my healing.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic and phenzopyridine is a analgesic. Nausea and vomiting are more common with phenzopyridine, so if you do not experience pain you can stop taking it and continue with ciprofloxacin. Antibiotics usually need to be taken for atleast 7-10 days course for clearing up the infection.

In case it is a yeast infection, antibiotics cannot help clearing the infection. Only antifungal will help. Fevers and chills suggest ascending infection in the urinary tract. I would suggest that you see a urologist for further work up on this.
Best.
