by linda34119, Sep 28, 2008 07:29PM
I was told to have my bladder polyp removed surgically.  My urologist told me that I have to have general anesthsia.  Is general necessary?  Can you also tell me if it is a bloody surgery?  I have one polyp above my uretha.

Hi,
How are you? A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue projecting from a mucous membrane. If it is attatched to the surface by a narrow elongated stalk it is said to be pedunculated.
Polyps are treated surgically. Usually more common in males and is non-neoplastic.  The most common location of a polyp is just above the urethra or at the bladder neck.
Treatment involves transurethral resection and there are very less chances of recurrence. General anaesthesia is required. And you don't have to worry because it is a simple proceedure.
Consult your urologist for further treatment.
Take care.
