blood,pain,low flow,and split straem

Posted by james patterson on August 06, 1999 at 12:40:01
for over 10 years off and on i have been
these symptoms. i have seen three diferent
doctors and have had and ivp which came up
negative. i use to masterbate quite a bit
when i was younger. could i have done some
damage. i would also stop myself from orgasm
by covering the tip of the penis with my
thumb. the syptoms (symptoms) get worse after
intercourse but get better each day after.
ihave been tested for std's and came up
negative. have had a culture done which was
negative too. one doctor said it was sexual
strain? the blood that comes out is bright
red like when someone has a nose bleed. so i
beleive it must be pretty close to the tip of
the penis. if idon't have intercourse for
awhile then the problem stops but once i
start have intercourse with my wife regularly
than sooner or later it flairs up again. this
is very frustrating and embarassing. i also
am scared to go for a scope test. is there an
alternative test? i'm 25 years old.
please help!

=============================================
Dear James,
You are unclear as to what "symptoms" you are exactly talking about, but I suspect you are referring to your bleeding after intercourse.  Brisk, bright red bleeding from the penis like you have described is often from the urethra (this is the conduit that runs the length of the penis and through which the urine passes to outside).  Often trauma from catheter placement, or self instrumentation could lead to urethral trauma and subsequent bleeding.  Less commonly, tumors, or abnormal blood vessels could lead to bleeding.  There are other causes of bleeding in the urinary tract, but they do not present as bright red bleeding from the penis.  These would include :  bladder tumors, kidney tumors, bladder infection, kidney or bladder stones, prostate cancer and prostate vein bleeding  among others. I don't believe this last category is your problem, especially since you are very young.  Further, masturbation should not be the source of a damage that causes bleeding.
Another possibility is bleeding from the foreskin, if you are uncircumcised.  This is possible since you have bleeding after intercourse which could traumatize a sensitive spot every time and lead to bleeding.
Regardless, you better see a urologist for proper evaluation.  He will most likely recommend that you be scoped .  This is usually well tolerated, and you should not worry about it.  You should not let fear deter you from seeking proper help.
