What dosage of Topamax causes weightloss?

I just started Topamax.  I'm on 25mg/day and will increase by 25mg/week until I reach 100mg.  I heard the weightloss effect depends on the dose.  So, what dose did everyone here have their success?  And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along?  I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking).  PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!  :)

Hello I am new. I'm sorry to read that scub, thats horribile!
My experience on Topoaxax has been a long one. I am currently on Topamax to lose weight. I weighed 110 #'s and I'n still weighing at 139 #'s. Topamax has done nothing for me and I am at 200 mg twice a day for about 6 months.
I'm not here to discourage since I have read that people have lost the weight, but I havent.

My doc put me on Topiramate 50mg once daily.  He did not specify morning or night.  He prescribed it because I was having severe headaches & he thought the side effect of losing weight was good for me because I do need to lose a bit.  No other comments from him - not even if I should take in AM or PM.  So, I took before bed & laid awake all night paranoid.  I stayed on it for 2 weeks continuing to have headaches.  Lost no weight, just sleep. He put me on Lyrica with the same results. This "professional" diagnosed me with Fiibromyalgia, epilepsy & anxiety so he could use the proper code for the insurance company to justify the drug.  I waited 2 years for a job with the TSA and when finally called I was rejected because of this inaccurate diagnosis.

Since then I have changed docs & it seems my headaches are from a nerve issue in my neck from a previous injury. Fiorinal has worked OK but my doc doesn't want me on these pain meds forever.  So, he is recommending Topiramate.  This time I smartened up and came online to get info - that's how I found your board.  This time I am starting 25mg 2x day & crossing my fingers

Are you someone who actually suffers with migraines?
I for one am and I would rather not have to take Topamax. The side effects are awful; this medicine is not given freely.

I have experienced itching at night.  I usually take my pill 25mg at 7-8pm.  The itching startsa few hours befroe then.  I have been wondring if it is a withdrawl symptom of the meds wearing off.  Cortisone cream did seem to help.

I have been on Topomax for about 3 weeks now at 100mg, about to go up to 200 mg soon. The side effects I have noticed are in terms of appetite, it has changed, sometimes I feel hungry but quite often not. There are days when I eat only once. I have not lost any weight even though my eating habits have changed so much.
Some bonuses I will add are... not that I was a total lush, but I have cut down to almost no alcohol, which really is a must when you are taking this drug, although I've read a bunch of different opinions about this. I haven't craved a cigarette, which really only ever happened when I'd be drinking.
The tingling in the toes and fingers are there and memory loss and fogginess is there unfortunately, so thank go auto correct exists. I'm still not sure whether I prefer taking it at night or in the morning, so I think I've decided to split my dose when I go to 200mg and do one in the am and one in the pm.
Good Luck to you all....

Hi, I don't recall there being any contraindications between Topamax and benzos. When I was on the Topamax I did Xanax for a little while then did Valium for a while.
