What dosage of Topamax causes weightloss?

I just started Topamax.  I'm on 25mg/day and will increase by 25mg/week until I reach 100mg.  I heard the weightloss effect depends on the dose.  So, what dose did everyone here have their success?  And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along?  I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking).  PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!  :)

Hello ,

Thank you for your words of wisdom regarding this topamax. I was wondering if you could tell us a little bit more about what happens when taking topamax with a benzos?

Thanks

Hello this is a new medication for me and not sure what to expect of it.  Have read quite a bit about it and still not sure.  Can any one tell me if they have the same side affects as I do.  I get a numb like feeling on my fingers only and seems to be always around the same time of day. Although I can not complain I rather have that then the migraines. :)

Exactly. All the weight won't just fall off. You wouldn't want it to either. It's not healthy. About 2 or 3 lbs a week is a good amount.

My experience with Toamax:
-28 year old female
-Topamax (Topiramate)
-Usage: 3 months with immediate results
-For mood stabilization (aggressive focused depression, anxiety, and borderline bi-polar disorder) bulimia, and weight loss.
-Dosage: Started at 25mg once a day for 7 days, then 50mg for 7days, all the way up to 100 mgs. Now steady at 100mgs now for almost 2 1/2 months. Seems to be a good dosage for me
-Side Effects: Have lost 17 lbs. Now at a healthy BMI and weight of 146 (super happy) only side effects i have really had are tingles in the feet and hands (which were mostly in the first few weeks) and minor head aches the first few days but they went away very quickly.

Results:This medication has been extremely helpful with all three. Mood control saw an almost immediate change which was phenomenal. This is a problem I have been battling for years and have had no luck getting help. I have been keeping my eating disorder in the dark from friends and family for over 10 years up until recently. It was nice to finally get help and find something that was able to help me feel normal. This medicine may not be for everyone, but I would certainly give it a try. I feel like its the miracle drug. I even tried all natural things because I believe that putting chemicals into our bodies isn't the answer.

BUT - sometimes its the ONLY answer...for some of us. I tried everything i could think of. chiropractor, natural supplements, anti-depressants, yoga, exercise, meditation, cenitol (also natural), alcohol, pot....you name it. But everything either made it worse, or did nothing. So believe me, i know where you are and the boat your in. I'm sure of it.

I am currently taking topiramate for alcohol consumption and also with the hopes of weight loss but I am terrified of hair loss ... I already have thin hair to begin with. Did you lose any hair? So far I haven't lost any weight. I am currently at 75 mg and am supposed to go to 100 mg next week and stay there. Any advise? Thank! :)
